Title: SSS D*mble
Post by: JD0x0 on August 09, 2009, 05:57:19 PM
how about a "Steel String Singer" type d style amp?

Nik could call it "Super String Singer" or "Stevie's Super Singer" (stevie ray vaughn used this type of amp)

I would also like to see SSS.  Santana also has one in his arsenal.  150 watts and very clean headroom. 8)

the filter circuit is unknown and the output transformer is somewhat diffuse as well

The filter is one of the easier parts, and I believe there are some schematics floating around. The OT can be pretty much anything with good headroom that can handle the wattage.

SSS is being worked on!

For the time being, we're doing the earlier 6L6GC ones.

Yeah yeah you guys say you want 150W, then you try to lullaby gramma to sleep with the amp :)

I'll make it 50 and 100W first.

Wow, reverb! I thought I'd never see it in my amps!

But of course, best part is the price. I will try to make a production RUN of 10 for members of the forum at introductory prices :)

Thanks

nik

How about splitting the difference and making an 85w amp? I'm sure it would have its own unique voice

OK Nik

Think you better post the layout so I/we can proofread/error check ;)

We wouldn't want to put the amps out and then start doing revisions would we ???

Seriously curious

Todd

Hi

nah... :)

Revisions are good, I thought it'd be a good way to keep abreast of mods, changes etc? if not, then sure, easier job for me! :)

We'll see abt layouts, but most likely, not.

It's cool to share but I dont get people who start out with our kits, layouts, etc and then bash us? I know it's business, but that aint cool, is it? :)

And as you know, the SSS, the goop is where the tone is from! LOL!

But hey, i'll price these very low, if that helps!

thanks!

Nik

Whoa

I hope you dont think I've ever bashed you/Ceriatone. Quite the opposite actually :)

I was just joking about that layout, and appreciate you keeping the price low although I will not be getting any amps pre-built. I enjoy building them as much as playing them. Hope you will bring the kits back ;)

Hehe..no, of course not you, Todd.

As for the filters, not so sure if it's easy, Jon(?)?

For the EF86 version, I guess we know it's an active type thing

For the 12AX7 version (Mayer, etc), is it the same case? Or is the inductor just there for show or some "cut" only? Sorry, I am not sure if this info is well known by now?

150W? Hehe..yeah thats everybody says, and then "pls install VVR on my SSS" hehe..

I think the 100W version would be cool for the time being.

Thanks!

Nik

"As for the filters, not so sure if it's easy, Jon(?)?"

Yup, all the info is pretty much known, couple of different flavors but all able to be done fairly easily.....

Hey Mark

In the SSS section he mentions somewhere between 1700-2000 for these amps.
If your serious probably best to email Nik direct though

Todd,

I emailed Nik and went over the specifics.

Why the hell do I need one of these.  LOL  Or you!

Mark,

I actually dont know the specifics you mention. But you are right I just built a 30 watt amp as you know that is too damn loud for my useage. After building 4 amps total so far, I can honestly say I am not part of the prebuilt amp buying demographic and probably never will be again.

If/when I build another it would be cool to do something with built in reverb so that is probably what intrigues me the most.

I would also like to see this information shared throughout the builders. The only person that should care whether this info is shared is HAD himself IMO.

Todd,

For a kool TW Rocket with reverb build the Normster version.

For Fender reverb with or without vibrato the Allen amps layouts/schematics are good.

I have over 55 amps most built my me but I spent good money on a custom Redplate Blackverb so I don't mind buy one now and then.

Mark

I may have to check that out, Normster is in my neck of the woods here in Sacramento. I haven't seen him on TAG for a while but I've been meaning to hit him up.

:-X 55 amps  :o Nice to have some tone choices eh  ;D

This stuff is seriously addictive. Must be nicotine in solder or something.

I know it's my first post -- so I have zero credibility. I KNOW!

But.

The instant this kit is available for me to do so, I will be buying one. I seriously cannot wait.
