Title: New models Post by: Tone Control on June 05, 2011, 12:13:18 PM How about some new models that aren't replicas?
I think Nik has enough experience and credibility to add a few new designs And with the new time freed up by dropping kits, 150 models may come quicker Carr and Wienbrock amongst others have done well in making amps that are based on elements of the heritage designs, but add new design ideas and features that are beyond "mods" Nik has done it to some extent for a few, but I just wonder what would be possible: There can't be anyone in the world with a workshop with so many designs being manufactured week-in, week-out. e.g. 4 Cathode biased 6L6s with an EF86 preamp Multi valve parallel Single-Ended, with a blend control (I had one made from a BH5 - added a 6L6 to the EL84. It works well, but the voicing needs fine tuning I think) Tweed Twin with EL34s and more advanced tone switching + low power modes A low power amp with a blackface JM sound, lots of tonal configurations, but under 10 watts Too many low-power amps have very basic tone stacks (Excuse me if any of these have been done, they're just examples) For modern designs, I think original designs might work better than replicas - no legal issues or sour grapes from owners of copied amps. Perhaps a different branding: "Ceriatone Signature" or something? My point is, I would rather buy these than USA-designed PCB amps made in China Is it time to take on this part of the market?
