Title: Jazz Amp?
Post by: Brad737 on November 17, 2007, 03:10:31 AM
Hello,
Am I the only one who would like a really, really warm, clean amp for jazz tones?  I like a Deluxe Reverb at low volumes.  But the DR likes to break up fairly easily.  I know most jazz guys like solid state amps for clarity, and clean sounds, but they sound sterile to me.  What do you guys think?

"You got that right"! I`ve seen same "problem" or characteristic among too many jazz players. Mister Shofield used to use Vox AC30, which are very (too) loud but has nice shimmering versus SS`s "cold" sound. I guess nowadays he plays with Mesa Boogies. Many jazzers like Bassman amp too. My personal research has led me toward  JTM45 or TW Liverpool, both with some mods/tweaks. But I like little dirt in my jazz. Opinions?

Well, I'm still holding out hope for a Deluxe Reverb-style amp that just doesn't break up as early.  Any mods that I can do for that?

Thanks,
Brad

Or do Ya think Overtone S instead of Overdrive S ;) ? I wild guess is thet it could be "the best of both worlds". Still waiting soundclips in Overtone section or somewhere. Hope they are not too wonderfull ;D , cause there are any on the market. I think that Nik is too polite! How about Your Tokai LS125? I`m GASsing LS150.

My Tokai is pretty cool, better than some Gibbies that went through my hands..... but.. maybe I´ll sell it to a friend soon who is quite interested in it.. as I need the money for a second Suhr I have on order ;)

Tokais are really nice "Gibson clones".. I´m just not a Les Paul guy :)

I am looking for the right ceriatone model to give me a warm round clean tone ala metheny combined with a controllable touch sensitive overdrive channel.  Any thoughts?
I have great luck with a Champ 12, with the four Torres mods in it, but it doesn't have enough clean headroom to get a true clean tone with a drummer.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.  Jim
