Title: Straycat mods Post by: petermerlot on February 08, 2013, 02:06:30 PM Have any of you guys done and decent mods on the Stray Cat like Tone control, Swapping resistor values,Channel Switching or Effect Loop. Please share,

I added and effects loop to mine. Can't say I ever use it though. I also changed the bright cap value on the clean input as I mostly play tele's and found it a hair bright. I am also running some mullard xf 2's,which IMO, helps to tame some harshness. That's about it for me... I Don't gig with this amp at all...it's mostly my quick go to for basement jamming and noodling for me. DOA Title: Re: Straycat mods Post by: petermerlot on February 28, 2013, 06:16:10 AM Thanks Drew for the reply, I am thinking about the effects loop but you have to have 2 for this amp. I use a G System so I can use that to choose what channel I want to send the signal to instead of an A/B switch. Nik did mention that the original Cathode resistors were too hot and suggests 330R 10w.
ANYBODY ELSE TINKERED WITH THIS AMP Title: Re: Straycat mods Post by: mrostron on March 13, 2013, 02:17:16 PM I had Nik build mine. He installed effects loops for both channels and built in a c-lator. I just use the c-lator with the clean channel, as it allows a more volume and gain control for that channel, making it even more useful. I loved the sound so much of both channels it was months before I started experimenting with running any effects through those loops! Right now using an old Lexicon MPX 500 - 1 channel for clean and one for the dirty. Seems to work fine with some adjusting of output on the Lexicon. Another nice thing is the c-lator makes it easier to get the volume balance between the channels right.
It is a fantastic amp. I have played a few gigs with it, and also use it in a theatre production. I have yet to even try it out at full power! Of course it is even heavier with the c-lator built in. I've ordered a cabinet with wheels from road cases usa for lugging it around. A really great amp, beautifully built by Ceriatone! |
