Title: Stray cat blowing ht fuses Post by: 72fetter on November 09, 2010, 07:00:51 PM So during the first run of the amp it was cooking along pretty nicely for about an hour. I switched it from tube rec to solid state and played the set (about 30 mins) I then powered the amp off and switched it back to tube rec, turned the amp back on and no sound though all logos lit up. The HT fuse had blown. I am going to go get some fuses as I didnt have any on hand but wanted to know your opinion on what could have happened.
The amp is built completely to spec using tds transformers Title: Re: Stray cat blowing ht fuses Post by: 72fetter on November 11, 2010, 04:51:51 PM why does noone reply to my posts lol anyways-bad jj tubes from the factory. got new ones problem solved.
Title: Re: Stray cat blowing ht fuses Post by: cmoore on November 11, 2010, 10:51:51 PM The HT fuse is frequently power tubes or rectifier problems. It could just be a coincidence that you changed rectos.......but you might want to start there when you get new fuses.
Good Luck Title: Re: Stray cat blowing ht fuses Post by: ampkits on November 17, 2010, 03:44:09 PM Hi,
Do make sure the HT fuse is 1A slo blo. It can be a bit triggery if smaller is used. Do report back on this, esp if the HT fuse still blows when changing mods between tube / SS rectifier, and vice versa. I havent experienced this, even toggling it back and forth. Not sure if there's some surge at play when changing the modes, will look into it Also, since this was a kit, did you install the cap/diodes on the recto tube socket? Would be good to protect the tube recto. Thanks! I turned her back on and started playing for a bit and then the sound slowly faded. Checking the fuse it looked browned as if burnt but did not fully blow. I replaced it and went back to standard full power and no blown fuses though played for 45 mins straight....what gives!!
