3  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: Plexi50 1987 Lead With PPIMV or Hotplate on: March 01, 2012, 09:02:16 PM
If you do not like the MV, just bypass it and try the attenuator...
I never liked the way MV works on my DC30, but as Wyatt says there is always something to compromise... Mine is a 15/30 watter and I can barely crank it!

Hi

I'm gonna buy the 1986 plexi50 bass head and I'm just a bit unsure of wether or not I should go for the PPIMV or not.. If I choose it and I find out that I want to use a HO's attenuator instead, do I just put the MV to max and it would be like it wasn't there/bypassed?

Also if I go for the MV, will one of the four input channels be sacrificed for the MV knob, or will the knob be placed on the backside of the amp?

Thanks!

I'm a noob at these things so it's most likely a really silly question:)
4  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Do you own a Ceriatone 1986 50w bass head? share your experiences here please! on: February 28, 2012, 08:37:44 PM
Hi

I now decided on which amp I wil buy, it will be the Plexi50w 1986 Bass head!

I'm not gonna use it at home, but with band practice and smaller gigs (50/100 people).

any of you have good experiences with having the mastervolum mod on this amp?

I also came across the HO attenuator which is supposed to be VERY good and eliminates the need for a Mastervolume mod.

But if some of you do have the PPIMV mod please let me know how it works for you when cranking the amp!

My style of sound covers the grounds of Thin Lizzy, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and the likes.

how is the gain in the 1986 bass 50w head? can you nail the Thin Lizzy sound with this amp?

i play on les pauls by the way!

please share your experiences on this amp and if you have used mastervolume or attenuators.

thanks!
5  British Style / 18 Watt / 18 watt TMB or 18watt EF86 TMB on: February 28, 2012, 06:58:25 PM
Hi guys

Having serious problems deciding on which amp to buy.

It's gonna be one of them for sure!

I was first locked on the 20 watt lead & bass head but now I'm thinking that the 18 watt might be more versatile.

I'm not gonna use it at home, only band practice and smaller gigs 50-100 people.

My style is Thin Lizzy, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters.

What do you think I should go for? The regular 18watt or the one with the EF86?

What is the main difference between the two anyway and what do the EF86 do sound wise?

6  British Style / 20 Watt Lead, Bass / Re: 20W Lead & Bass advice for mods etc on: February 27, 2012, 08:20:46 PM
Thanks for all the info!

I will never use it at home, only at band practice and smaller gigs.

Nik suggested the PPIMV mod and tad mustard caps as the only mods on this amp.

I have no experience with those, I've read that some say it takes away some of the original sound etc, but I haven't tried any myself.

Is there any that is better then others and especially for the 20w lead&bass?

But if I choose the MV I can bypass it somehow anyway right? Guess I just have to crank the volume  to 10:)
8  British Style / 20 Watt Lead, Bass / Re: 20W Lead & Bass advice for mods etc on: February 27, 2012, 07:37:59 PM
Thanks guys, big help actually!

I don't think the 1/2 power switch will be of interest then.

Are there several kinds of mastervolume mods they can do or just one?
If several, what is the best one?

The amp will definitely not be used at home, only band practice and smaller gigs so if anything, maybe a mastervolume (but do i really need it...?), the bias mod and tad mustard caps will be all I need of mods..

I also have a Ibanez  hand wired ts808 and a blackstone appliances MOSFET overdrive.

Hope they will help me get that thin lizzy sound if the amp alone won't give me it by itself.

hi guys!

im sooo close to place an order for the Ceriatone 20w Lead & Bass for my quest after that fat Thin Lizzy solo tone:)

anyone here who owns one who could share their experiences with it?

Also, what mods do you think I should go for?
FX Loop
Mastervolume
1/2 Powerswitch
Tad Mustard caps

any thing else I should put in there? and is it a bit too much to have both the 1/2 powerswitch AND a Mastervolume on it?

Im gonna use it for full band practise and smaller gigs (50-100) people.

thanks for any tips and experiences shared!

I'd like to see a Marshall JCM 900 SL-X model/style amp. That's the JCM 900 a master volume model with two master volumes, which gives guitar players something they need: a second master volume level for soloing !!

I second that!!

A 50 w jcm900 SL-X with mastervolume and 1/2 power switch, or even a 15-20watt edition would be perfect!
11  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: how loud is your 1987? on: February 23, 2012, 11:04:18 PM
Wow!
I just got my 1987 a week or so ago from Nik and man it is real loud! I run it into a 4x12 with greenbacks and I had a PPIMV put in. I guess it's all a matter of taste (or tinnitus)  Tongue

How is your 1987 with the MV working for you? Are you able to crank it at reasonable volume?
I'm thinking of buying one with MV and a 1/2 power switch,I'm just afraid it's still gonna be too loud cranked for band practice and small gigs.
