1  American Style / 5F6-A Bassman / debugging 5F6-A ceriatone bassman clone HELP! on: January 26, 2009, 11:48:43 PM
Hello, the other day, my girlfriend forgot to plug the speakers to the amp.

she said after 5 minutes or so she pluged it in but fuse blew. now it makes humming noise when it is even on standby. it blows fuse instantly if i take off from standby.

so i swapped the 6l6's and that hum on standby disappeared so i tried to play but now GZ34 tube glows momentally and no sound through guitar.

after reading GEOFEX debug page, I tested if OT was ok and it seems it is ok.
im just trying to check the PT but im just lost in the GEOFEX's debugging page.

"Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the primary (usually Black - Black wires) and the resistance of both leads to the chassis. The primary should be under 1K ohms. If it is not, the transformer is dead"

I measured resistance with both leads on black wire. same point? is this right? it only gives me 0.1ohm.

"Measure the resistance to the chassis from both ends of the primary winding. It should be more than 1M ohm"

i dont understand what this means...

any advice would be greatful!

thank you always!
2  Website, Store / Support / hiss/crackling noise on: July 30, 2008, 12:10:21 AM
hi, i managed to finish my 5f6-a but there is a little hissy noise with sometimes crackling(almost like crashing a paper into a ball.) sound. when I turn up the volume it makes louder and if i touch the guitar strings or any other metal part on my guitar.

so this means somthing is wrong with soldering or grounding?

or my preamp tube is busted?

thanx for any input.

actually, i just realized it is much more confusing.

inoticed most of caps on my amp are different values than weber layout one.

BUT little different layout than ceria tone one(there is no 27k/bias pot on mine)

im really confused what tubes to get.

hmmm???
6  Website, Store / Support / another newbie question:( 5F6-A on: May 30, 2008, 03:55:39 AM
sorry for beginner question again.

Im just wondering if I can use the following tubes

GZ34 tube instead of WZ34 tube,

12AX7B instead of 12AX7 or 12AY7

im wondering because my kit is little old and it is unrevised version of 5F6-A.

exactly this one, http://taweber.powweb.com/store/5f6a_layout.jpg

but on seria tone site i can only find this one for 5F6-a
http://www.ceriatone.com/images/layoutPic/fenderLayout/5F6A-BassmanCeriatone_100508.jpg

and these require different tubes.

please let me know when any of you have a chnace Embarrassed

thank you so much for your help!!
