16  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: New power valves in my OTS50 on: January 23, 2009, 10:54:57 AM
Two years ago in Georgia before Russian military base clearance I’ve bought 100 military spec 6L6s for $20 from some Russian sergeant.
10 000 hours and high voltage capability, lovely sounding tubes.

He also added 20 NOS Telefunken  and 30 Tungsram  ECC83s for $35
I guess I was lucky Grin.

That quite a nice deal... Smiley I want that too... Wink

I'm using tungsram NOS ecc83 in V1 and V2.... They sound absolutely amazing Smiley

I have replaced the stock Tungsol 6L6 tubes with two matched Tube Amp Doctor 6L6WGC - STR...

Wow what a difference Smiley the amp now sounds way bigger than before, and is more detailed in both bass, middle and treble frequencies. A lot more head room than the tungsols and also more power...

These valves is definetly worth a try Smiley

just my 2 cents Wink
19  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Eminence speakers on: January 06, 2009, 01:05:31 PM
I use a eminence Cannabis Rex with my OTS... I think it sounds great, it especially enhanced the fenderish of the clean channel... But it also fits well with the OTS OD channel...

Like all speakers it needs a litte breaking in Smiley

You can check out a soundclip of my OTS where the cannabis is miced with a sm57 at the soundclip section either here at the forum or on ceriatones website

Hi

I've just installed a couple of Tungsram ECC83 NOS tubes in position V1 and V2... And WOW I thought the amp sound amazing before (and it did), but now it sounds even more amazing...

I had a couple of stock JJ ECC83 before...

With the tungsram tubes the clean channel opens up even more, and with a more punchy bass, and shiny trebles... Even the OD channel breaks up extremely nice... It's more naturally sounding OD than before... definetly worth changing your preamp tubes Smiley

René

Hi René,
Where did you buy the NOS tungsram ? pyndt.dk?

Best regards Claus

Hi Claus...

Bought them through www.ebay.co.uk... there are a lot of NOS tubes for sale there

Hi

Just finished up building a SSL9K preamp Clone Smiley, So I've made two quick recordings of my overtone amp.

Signal Chain... Fender Tele (US) --> Overtone Special (Bright:off, Deep:on, Rock, Volume:7, Treble: 6.5, Middle: 4.5, Bass: 4, Level: 6, Ratio: 6, Master: 1.1, Presence: 4.8 --> SM57 on speaker (eminence Cannabis Rex) --> SSL9k preamp --> ADA8000 --> RME HDSP9652 --> Cubase SX3 (delay and reverb added)

First off a couple of pictures of my newly build micpre Smiley

Both clips are one takes, It was more a test of the preamp than the overtone special Smiley

First clean is just some noodling with the clean channel

Next is just a quick jam to a backing track

Hello

if NOS EF86 is too pricey, I also like the Svetlana "EF86".

These are old tubes, made for the Russian military with 6j32p designation.

I am getting em from Russi direct, been stocking on em Smiley

Thanks!

Nik

Hey

I actually have some NOS phillips PF86 tubes, they are the same as the EF86 tube, but either a higher or lower plate voltage (can't remember)... Nik does these tube work in the 18 watter Smiley

Got the eminence Cannabis Rex together with a celestion g1265....

After the Cannabis Rex has been through it's "breakin" period, it just sounds awesome... Keeps growing on me everytime I play the amp

26  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS with 15'' Celestion bass speaker - sound samples on: September 04, 2008, 06:03:56 PM
Hey

That setup sounds absolutely great, big dynamic sound, and you definately can hear the speaker moving some air Smiley

What does the built in microphone compare to??? A dynamic sm57 or something totally different

Are you using a dumbleator or a kleinulator ?

Maybe it will resolve my problem !

No I have nothing in the fx loop, only pedals in front... so no kleinulator

28  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone finished with headcab :) on: July 24, 2008, 07:39:52 AM
That's pretty spiffy.  Some sort of logo plate and some wheat cloth or basket weave would really make your rig "pop".

Good stuff.

Frontgrill is going to be attached this week, and I'm in the process of figuring out which logo, thats gonna be put on the amp Smiley

29  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Questionable, but i might be going for the Overtone on: July 23, 2008, 09:58:38 PM
Nathan,
We all definately have target sounds we are looking for but I love the OD channel.  One of (among many) the tones I really like is quite similar to "Reeling in the Years" Steely Dan type.  I hit with my LP and it is very nice to my ears anyhow.
I haven't found the tones to be harsh at all.  I am using a Kleinulator and Reverb the former of which I am told fattens the sound a bit.  The OD sounds are better with buckers, however, to me at least.  I use some light drive and no boost with my Strat, just enough to know it is there...no more.
I have found some VERY nice warm ever so slightly driven tones with my Strat, again this is all very subjective, but I can't help but think that tone is in there somewhere.  I really like what my ears are hearing.  I am using a combo cab that has a v30 and G12h30 Celestions combo.  I won't say it nails that fat Mayer tone but it is certainly very nice and in the ballpark.
Have you tried rolling back the mids to near nothing.  Using moderate Treble (5ish) and a little more Bass?  My Strat sounds incredible...no kidding.  I get some very nich tones doing the Hendrix, SRV Mayer type thing.

It's kinda strange that I'm the only one who have some prob with the OD brightness.

My Kleinulator doesn't work (the little chip in it has blow when I first put on the divice, I must receive another chip in few days). The Kleinulator should smooth a bit the amp but will affect both clean and OD channel.

Hywelg, is the 5751 a 12AT7 ?

Thanks for your advices Wink.

Strange that you have a problem with the OD, I run my OTS stock (but build after the latest layout), and i mainly play my amp with my telecaster...

My OD isn't bright at all... rich and fat with the deep switch on, bright off and rock on... but when it's with deep off, bright on and rock on, its off course a more bright/trebly, but not harsh... Stills sounds excellent...

Maybe its just a matter of taste... or maybe there is a big difference between the OTS amp Huh? Smiley

By the way, I get pretty close to the John Mayer tone, on the clean channel using a TS808 and a T-rex dr.swamp... Volume 6,5 Treble 4,5 Mid 4,5 Bass 3 Bright off Deep on/off(either way sounds john mayerish Smiley ) Rock on...
Master above 1 and presence at 4,5

Very nice, is that bare wood or is it varnished?

If bare wood, are you planning to cover it at all?

Hi
It is varnished, have three layers Smiley

Im planning to keep it the way it is... Only thing missing is a personallized badge on the amp... Smiley
