What FP said.
Trimmer, tubes, and spkrs, usually get you where you need to go.
2  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Are there duty fee's on an amp shipped to US? on: May 06, 2008, 12:29:59 AM
I wonder if it applies to complete amps assembled?
3  Ceriatone / Overtone / Are there duty fee's on an amp shipped to US? on: May 05, 2008, 09:55:21 PM
I just got a bill from DHL asking for duty fees, about 6o bucks or so, does this sound right?

What does snipping the cap on the master volume do for the tone?
5  Ceriatone / Overtone / Where is the bias pot located on: April 24, 2008, 02:18:36 AM
I havent opened it up yet, but there are three trim pots inside from my understanding, fet, od, and phase inverter, where then would the bias pot be?

The od sounds thin, and anemic, nothing fat about it, must begin the tweaking process I guess.

Eventually doesnt cut it.

It started at 6 weeks, went to 8 weeks, and now approaching 10 weeks.

Its taking a lot of shine of the expectation of this amp.

Well, I ordered on Feb 6, and nothing yet. I am past 9 weeks, and to my knowledge some that ordered after me, have received theirs. I ordered the entire package with head box and tubes, so maybe that is the hold up.

I know that one appeared for sale on the gear page, and if I had not placed an order, I would have jumped on it.

Marin, thanks for all the great clips, you and spm are selling a lot of amps for Nik.
What kind of delay did you use on the last clip with the strat? Was that the g12-65 spkr?

From what I have read, I would change the od trimmer settings. What I would do is turn the mid and treble down to zero, and drive the bass up. Then dial in the amount of highs. In all my old Marshalls, I never turn the treble up unless I have to cut through. But playing at home sitting right in front of any amp, you most often dont need to set the amp up with a lot of treble. Give it a whirl.

SPM nailed the tone I am looking for in this amp, give him a shout, and check his youtube video, I think he indicates his settings on that video.

Actually the tone I want to get is present in a clip by spm, a Finland native. You may have seen the youtube clips, there are others like Marin, who have made some nice ones as well. I like the fat mids of the amp, and plan on dialing in the right speaker combination.

I hesitate to ever chase the tone of another player especially a pro, you can have Robben Ford hand you his guitar with his rig plugged in, and you wont nail his tone. You may be relatively close, but it still is going to sound like you.

My larger concern is seeing where I can take this amp, not where its going to take me. Chair Dance

Greetings all, put me on the list of waiting for an Overtone. Let me share with all of you my impressions from a distance mind you, but none the less.

I first heard the amp from a clip posted on another forum, and youtube. A tasty bit of playing, combined with a thick, refined overdriven tone. Further to this, I started looking more and more for info on the amp. I am familiar with Nik's reputation on the net, and have heard a lot of good things.

What happened was I found myself going back to the clips over and over, really digging the tone. I am not on a search for Robben Ford's tone, or Carlton's, in fact a Dumble is something I have never really had an attraction to.

Before I rant on how impressed I was, let me say it was directly a result of this guys playing that made me feel it was a special amp. How I make it sound will be totally different, but the platform is there. There rest is up to me.

My thoughts on the Overtones was enough to make me place an order, that has to be the biggest compliment I can give it before actually hearing it in person. Although it is going to be a while before I get it, I am looking forward to it. Once here, I will give it my completed evaluation, good, bad or indifferent.

But after hearing several clips, man does it sound unreal.

Off topic here a little, but Nik's JTM50 looks stunning, I may end up ordering one to a/b it to the real deal, (I have a 67 black flag).

This particular amp will go down in my personal history regardless of how it sounds, good enough where I was willing to wait for one...............stay tuned. And thanks to all for posting there feelings, keep em coming.
