If you can login...go to the forums and post in the Feedback to Admins area.  If you can't login I will pass on a message for you if you like.

Chris

I can't login... I tried to change email address and it sent me a validation email but when I clicked on the link it gives me an access denied error, but I couldn't login because the account is inactive due to changing email address. So I am stuck here. The account name is rahimiiii
17  British Style / 18 Watt / email for admin at 18watt.com? on: May 19, 2008, 11:09:24 AM
does anyone have the email address for an admin at 18watt.com? I have an account issue and I can't find the email anywhere on their non-member site.

Plexi 50
19  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Using fx/ effect loop on: April 19, 2008, 07:04:42 AM
How about an integrated Dumbelator inside the amp? I wish the overtone special has more space for tubes or boards however... I have a schematic for a buffered effect loop using a 12AU7. Cost of parts is around 50 dollars. May be more cost effective for those limited on budget.

Nik also told me by putting in built in spring reverb after the effect pedal you kinda get a bonus effect loop boost which is same as a buffered loop. I wonder how it works. I know the reverb loop is kinda like a buffered effect loop because the signal that returns from the reverb tank is really weak.

You could use something like a Boss LS-2 or something which has a buffered loop.

Rahimiii,  so, what's it sound like?  I gave up on the 18 watt reverb years ago.  My interest is piqued for the Overtone though.

It sounds great, I can try and record a clip with a computer mike.

Fixed it, turns out to be burned out pilot light rather than something worse... I replaced it with Fender style pilot light so I can change the bulb when it blows rather than opening up the amp and re-soldering another one on.

This isn't a dumble but seeing how few people read the Plexi board and how many people asked about a reverb on the dumble I decided to post it here.

The story goes that I want some kind of a reverb, I was looking around for digital reverb pedals but they were expensive, like more than your average distortion pedal in fact. I seen too many tube amps with spring reverb but nothing Nik or anyone else for that matters offers a kit that has built in reverb, so I decided to find a schematic and do it myself. I got this schematic from the gallery section from rjgtr on 18watt.com. Anyways here is the schematic...

I figured the diagram and schematic is simple enough that I could do this. The problem is there isn't enough space inside the 50 watt plexi for another circuit board because everything is crammed inside just right and with the PPIMV and unbuffered loop it's about as much as I can put in it. So I used an electrical junction box for the tube as well as circuit board because the hole on top is just perfect fit for a ceramic preamp tube socket. I am really pushing it however some of the caps are kinda large in size. I used a small breadboard for all the parts and had to somehow manipulate the leads to get things stuck on the board. Just follow the schematic and connect the proper leads to wherever it asks for. pin 4,5 and 9 are heaters. Just connect them to those pins on your amp's preamp tube. Pin 6 goes to preamp B+ which means where the preamp tube pin 6 is connected to before the 100k resistor. Pin 1 is connected to the blue wire on the reverb transformer and the red wire goes to the output tube screen supply. Yes there are 400+ volts but trust me it works, I done it on my plexi (395 volts at pin 4 of output tube) and it makes the reverb more live. If you can't figure out where it goes on your dumble just wherever the screens are hooked to or wherever the choke is connected to.

Use tank type 4,8,9ABXXXXX you can use whatever you like but make sure it has an input impedance of 8 or 10 ohms. I used 8AB2A1B or whatever they used in the mesa boogie...

Finished project. I decided to place the tank on top of the cab because its crammed inside. The overtone special is really crammed though so maybe ask nik if you can get a larger chassis or something to make space for the extra tube and parts.
23  Website, Store / Support / indicator light blew... on: April 17, 2008, 02:10:10 AM
Today I turned on the amp and noticed the indicator light is out... but the amp works fine. Is there anything I should be worried about other than replacing the light?
24  Ceriatone / Overtone / Kit #2 on: April 12, 2008, 01:39:01 AM
Just a question about kit #2... are wires included or it has to be purchased separately?

I'd ask nik but I think everyone else might want to know this...
25  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Using fx/ effect loop on: April 12, 2008, 01:38:08 AM
I think I will just go with individual effect pedals... these multi effect unit always colors the tone in some way. I tried plugging in a Zoom G2.1u into the plexi when I first got it and it really messed with the sound even with all amp/cab sims off.
26  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Is there reverb on the Overtone? If not what do you suggest? on: April 08, 2008, 12:27:46 AM
You do not have to necessarily use a tube... solid state counterparts could be used but make sure the impedance matches. Not all circuit requires a reverb transformer but the Fender style ones seems to be the most straightfoward and reverb transformer is cheap and Nik sells them. Like I said I could install this inside the chassis but I'd have to do some major overhaul to make space as well as punch holes for an extra tube...
27  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Special Overtone Project on: April 07, 2008, 12:57:11 AM
Nope... 50 watts is more than enough for me. But I hope someday he builds an HRM version (50 watt or 100 watt). Smiley

Only reason I would want 100 watt is for the clean headroom... My plexi 50 is loud on clean but I don't know if its enough for gigs.
28  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Is there reverb on the Overtone? If not what do you suggest? on: April 07, 2008, 12:40:49 AM
I am working on something which I will add to my plexi 50 clone. This should also work in an overtone as well. If you haven't ordered anything ask Nik to punch a few extra holes in the chassis for preamp tube, this uses one 12AT7 and a reverb tranny (which nik has) and a *AB***** reverb tank.

Also see if you can get Nik to punch a few extra holes in the front for pots... In fact if I ever get the overtone I will ask for an oversized chassis (like the ones used on the Plexi 100 superlead) with a few extra holes.

I used the switch box because I could not find any space inside my plexi 50 chassis and I couldnt find space for an extra tube too, this assembly will be bolted right on top of the main chassis... I am also "disabling" the presence control (it does nothing on my amp) by removing the pot from the chassis and securing it elsewhere... like the back.

Nik told me he has 100 watt version of Overtone special available now... Has anyone built one?
30  Website, Store / General / Re: Ouch! on: April 05, 2008, 05:06:47 AM
My plexi clone came with 2A fuse and we use 110v in Taiwan (same as N America) and I had no issue with blown fuses.
