16  American Style / PrinzeTone / build number 6 and it is Sooooooooooo Sweet on: August 23, 2011, 09:28:14 AM
Well it all started out with the building of the Creme Brulee and the "AMP Bug" bit me.

Then came the Stray Cat, The Dumble OTS, The Dumble-183, The C-Lator, and finally the Prinzetone and it is as sweet a sounding amp as you could ever wish for. Its loaded with a 12" Greenback and the cab is made from some really old Australian Cedar and some Tassie Huon Pine. The interaction between the Bass and Treble control works well and suits all guitars that I have fed it and the Trem is very nice. It takes pedals exceptionally well too. Xotic AC plus, Blackstar HT Duel etc....

Thanks Nik. Another awesome amp that you have given to us. May you never stop..........

Oh, and the vox badge is now removed. I originally made the cab as a 1x12 ext cab for my Heritage Vox AC15 and modded it last week to accommodate the Prinzetone build. I will post some sound clips as soon as I can.

I think that all overtones look nice. Yes I did make the head cab myself, it's a bit of a hobby making head cabs and speaker cabs. Some are timber and some are tolex and some are the best of both worlds but the snakeskin looks the part, well at least in my opinion but I am bias, lol

so are you talking about a 68pf on the master volume of the amp. The ots already has that or are you talking about somewhere else,

19  Ceriatone / Overtone / Overtone Special. A SNAKE IN THE GRASS on: March 27, 2011, 08:41:06 AM
I just completed my 3rd build and it sounds just like the 1st Two, "Awesome". I decided on a snake skin Tolex to be a bit daring and different and I think I succeeded but all of you can be the judge of that.

Also, I am contemplating building the C-lator to compliment this and other builds. I find that with the OTS the sparkling highs disappear when I use the loop but truly a great amp.

20  Muchless / Stray Cat 30 / Re: stray cat 30 on 6V6's on: March 01, 2011, 10:57:36 AM
Hello to all who have been wondering how it will sound on the 6V6's.
I have really been digging the Stray Cat on the EL34'S but finally changed the amp over to the 6V6's and it sounds great. As expected, it dropped the output but the clean is still full and lush. Obviously its tone has changed but not for the worse or for the better, just different and the drive channel still growls and sounds awesome.
This is a great option for home playing or if you are playing in small clubs like in a Duo situation. I am not sure if I will keep it in this configuration or change it back but it is a simple mod and easily reversable. I have not gigged with it in its current form but I see no foreseeable problems and it has been well worth the exercise. I hope that some of you out there will benefit from my trials,
Cheers

21  Ceriatone / Overtone / strike 3 on: February 23, 2011, 09:34:21 AM
In December 2010 I purchased a Creme Brulee kit from Nick and built it in a few days and it is an awesome amp and in January 2011 I bought a StrayCat 30 Kit (Get one) and put it together and was floored at the jaw dropping Drive and sheer guts of this thing and now in February I have just this minute ordered an OTS-50 kit and by all indications it is going to be my ultimate amp. I just sold my Fender Supersonic Head and I might sell The Trace Elliott Velocette Twin and Vox AC15H1TVL in the near future. I will never never never never NEVER, buy another overpriced name branded amp again. Nicks amps are the real deal. I will keep you all posted how Number 3 turns out.
Regards,
Peter
22  Muchless / Stray Cat 30 / Re: stray cat 30 on 6V6's on: December 23, 2010, 12:31:10 PM
Hi There Hired Hand, Thanks for the input as it is much appreciated. Nik supplied me with a pair of matched 6V6 JJ Tubes and also a pair of ceramic 470/10W resistors to try out in place of the  2 x  270/10W resistors and thinks that this should do the trick but if not then I will just stick with the EL34's,
Regards
Pete

It looks like I just have to change the values on the cathode side so I might install both on a switch then changing one to the other will be a breeze (I hope)
24  Muchless / Stray Cat 30 / Re: stray cat 30 on 6V6's on: December 14, 2010, 04:19:04 AM
well I have just ordered it of Nik and I will let you know how it goes. I will not be able to start it till about 12th Jan 2011 but I should get a good run on it. Fingers crossed
25  Muchless / Stray Cat 30 / The 6V6 18watt Stray Cat works like a charm on: December 12, 2010, 09:43:33 AM
Hi There, I just finished a Creme Brulee and it is simply supurb and now I am like a junkie in need of a fix so I am looking at the Stray Cat 30 as my second build but I am only playing at home and in a duo so 30watts is a bit much so I was toying with the idea of 6V6's to help tame the beast in conjunction with the half power switch this should be a good small gigging amp and home amp. What are your thoughts people. I have run it past nick and he has'nt said no so it is a possibility. I see that the Stray Cat uses the same Powre Tranny as the 5E3 Tweed Deluxe and it uses 6V6's. I look forward to the input people....
