Hey Jzucker,

whick guitar are you using??

 and which speakers ??

Important to know when you are talking about a bright sounding amp , without mods.

Celestion 1265 which are dark, greenbacks which are a little brighter and Wizards which are brighter still.

Surprised anyone would think the mods are dark. I typically keep my presence and treble at 10 O'Clock. Plenty of room to brighten things up. The 47pf mod only works in conjunction with a tube dumbleator and 8' cables. The idea is that the parasitic capacitance introduced in the cables reduces the brash high freq content and then the 47pf is passing through frequencies, some of which have been removed by the effect loop cables. If you use no loop and no dumbleator you are not even close to the robben and carlton mods. Not to say that it won't sound good but just keep those parameters in mind when you are modding. Frankly, adding brightness at the MV side is the wrong way to go IMO since turning the master up negates the effect of the bright cap.

area 51 wah and a geek-screamer overdrive. Not me in the picture. Cheesy

who says the amp is so versatile? It gets a wide range of tones but they all sound like a dumble. I think it can get a wide range of tones from jazz to blues to rock to fusion. That's pretty versatile and I've posted a wide range of clips but you probably didn't take the time to check them out. Easier to issue a challenge. Cheesy

How versatile is a '65 Fender Twin or JTM-45?

23  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: adding effect loop to the plexi on: May 27, 2008, 03:19:34 PM
Actually, I have a tube spring reverb right after the insert loop, which nik says it automatically buffers the signal anyways since if you really think about it, the reverb first boosts the signal before going into the tank then boosts again to line level after leaving the tank...

I don't think so. The fender spring reverb units do buffer the signal but they produce less output than what goes into them.

I just installed the larmar and an interrupt loop. They both sound better than the regular master and the non-interrupt loop with the switch that was in there before. The larmar master sounds better than an attenuator or power scaling IMO.

I think this is what you want. (Shorting jacks)

Neutrik 568-NYS212/2 1/4" MONO SWITCHED

what sound are you looking for?

just get a good overdrive pedal. A Gain Stage Red, Zendrive, Six Swords, Eternity, G-drive, Zenith and you'll be in business.
28  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: PT voltage? on: May 26, 2008, 12:23:04 PM
Thinking about ordering a "Plexi kit" but I´d like to know what voltage the PT delivers?
I need a really high voltage (no less than 450V) on the powertubes.

why?

Really nice. The larmar sounds great in this amp. Hopefully Nik makes this a "stock" option.
30  Ceriatone / Overtone / Red Plate Amps Dumblator in the house! on: May 24, 2008, 07:17:27 PM
This thing sounds phenomenal and works great with my ceriatone plexi and ceriatone overtone amp. Adds a sweet girth to the tone of the amp.
