Over a thousand views and only a few decent people commenting. Why can't we get a bit of conversation going?

Thanks, sorry it took a while to reply.

Fair play to you, one decent man out of nearly 200 to look at this and comment.

Hey, heres my finished Bluesbreaker.

Its got some NOS allen bradley resistors, custom faceplate, Valve Art KT66s, rest of tubes are Tung Sols, Speakers are Celestion Gold alnico and a G12 H30 70th anniversary. Hammond Transformers and a lot of help off Nik. Its a half Ceriatone, half my own sourced parts monster. Walnut and Maple, dovetail joints and French Polished.

Sounds even better than it looks!!.

What you guys think??

5  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Noisy presence and treble, any ideas??? on: May 17, 2011, 12:05:43 AM
Hey all,

I put together my bluesbreaker recently. It's sounds brilliant apart from the background hiss. There was other noise that I addressed at the start and now I'm down to a bit of hiss. I think that it may have something to do with the presence pot. The pot is a bit crackley when turning it and if you put it up to 9 or 10 it makes crazy noises! I understand it crackles because there is DC across it. I have the negative feedback from the 16 ohm tap going through the resistor that then connects to the presence pot. I was messing around and took off the presence pot ground to see what would happen and when its not grounded the amp seems to be dead quiet. That's what has me thinking this could be the source of the hiss.

Also if I turn down the presence and treble to 0 the hiss is gone. And with the presence and treble turned up the hiss stays even if I turn down the guitar

Anyone have any similar experiences?? Or anyone got any ideas??

 Huh?
Thanks guys!
6  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: What's the deal with the Ceriatone tremolo circuit? on: May 16, 2011, 11:57:56 PM
I just want to ad here that I am quite happy with Niks Tremolo. At first it sounded not very strong. But then I realised I had the Bias set too high. The tremolo is more prominent when the KT66s are biased down around 30ma.
7  Website, Store / Suggestions / Ceriatone 63 Fender Reverb Clone on: May 06, 2011, 02:02:30 AM
Hey,
I think it would be cool if Nik did a 63 fender Spring Reverb Unit clone. Oldschool tube driven spring reverb! Would go nice with some of the amps and there is not that many clones out there!!

Im really happy with it so far, I will surely post more pics once complete!!

Hey guys,
hope you are well.

Heres some pictures of my Bluesbreaker cabinet I got a friend to make for me. It still needs to be varnished and the handle needs to be bolted down. And the birch ply behind the grill clothe will be darkened or stained so the speaker holes wont be as obvious when its done!! Also the Marshall repro block logo (which is taped on for the pictures) should by rights be a Ceriatone logo because most of the parts including the chassis, pots etc are all from Nik. And its a Ceriatone layout that is being used. What do you guys think? Its made from Walnut and Maple and is dovetail jointed together.

Heres a link for flickr if you want to look at the pictures closer.

Tell me what you think!!!

10  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Grounding a JTM45 Bluesbreaker on: March 31, 2011, 04:13:40 PM
Hey everyone, hope you are well.

I was just wondering how you guys have grounded your amps? And what is the best way to do it? Some say run all your grounds to the one bolt on the chassis? But one Niks drawing it shows some other earths that seem to be also attached straight to the chassis. I found this picture on another forum, is this a good grounding plan??

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks

11  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: Using the effects loop on: March 01, 2011, 01:30:35 AM
New user, technically inept!!

I have JTM 45 head with an effects loop into which I tried running standard stompbox pedals (like your standard BOSS overdrive, for example). However, I experienced a dramatic loss in volume and a heavily distorted sound. I email Nik and he told me that the loop is 'passive' and runs at 'line level,' so the levels between the loop and the effects are mismatched.

The research I've done leads me to believe that I must run rack-mounted effects in this loop, but before I begin to look into that I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to lower the level from the loop 'send' down to instrument level and run through the desired effects, and then bump it back up to line level for the loop 'return.'

Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated!!!

This may be a little off topic but you said you tried a Boss distortion pedal through your effects loop?
I wouldnt recommend this for the best sound anyway. A rule of thumb, put your time delay effects through the loop, like delay, reverb, tremelo etc. And your distortion and wah through the front.
12  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: Is using All Allen Bradley Carbon Comp Resistors on a Board a good idea??? on: March 01, 2011, 01:24:06 AM
Cool, thanks for the reply wyatt!

Yeah im fairly sure they are all allen bradleys!! Got them from a reputable source. I ordered some modern carbon films to put in the power section at least because the last thing I want is something to fail at the expense of my tubes! Im going to leave some CCs just in certain areas. Hopefully this will work out!

Cool,
Thanks for the reply! I have been mulling this over for ages on other forums and even Nik got involved at one stage!! (And yes i do know all about thoughts of amps keeping me awake at night, usually coz i want to do something and dont have the money!! Ha!) Yeah both my transformers are Hammonds, and a Hammond 7H choke!! I wanted some Marstran or mercury magnets but I live in Ireland and so the shipping from the states pretty much costs the same as the transformers, I find that everything from the states has overpriced shipping for international orders. I mean Nik can post stuff for half the price and hes further away!!! So I had to get the transformers from germany!! I decided after loads of input from different people to just get Carbon Films and keep a few CCs in a few places on the board!! SHould have it built in a few weeks, I cant finish it until my friend makes the cab for me!! I will post pics when I finish it and hopefully post a few sound clips if it sounds good and I can get hold of a mic!!
14  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: Best speakers for JTM45 ? on: February 20, 2011, 08:54:30 PM
I got a Celestion Gold and a G12-H30 70th Anniversary both 12 inch and both 16 ohm. Havnt built my Amp yet but I have looked into it and this seems like an interesting combination!!!
15  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Is using All Allen Bradley Carbon Comp Resistors on a Board a good idea??? on: February 20, 2011, 08:50:37 PM
Hey everyone,
Im new to the forum. What does everyone think about using all Carbon Composition Resistors on the JTM45 board? I am in the process of building a JTM45 Bluesbreaker and have used all CCs for the main board and tremelo board with Sozo caps and Niks Ceriatone Capacitors.

Heres a good article for explaining the effects of CCs and a lot of people say they are noisy!! Im torn, I dont know what to do!!

http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/carbon_comp/carboncomp.htm

Heres pics of the boards, I have soldered them so Im reluctant to change them without asking some expert opinions!!!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/53586980@N06/

Should I , A) go ahead and try this board

                B) take them off and just use modern resistors

or      C) Use CCs only in certain positions??
