1  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Robin Trower Sound on: August 22, 2010, 05:13:51 PM
Hey Guys.

I am chasing the Robin Trower sound with my Plexi 50, the best I can.  I know he has used many amps, cabinets...speakers etc etc over the years.

My amp was build by greysound, who did a great job.  We have MM's OT, PT just signing away.  I have the articulation and sustain i need to do trower....the sound is very close.

I have a 4 x12 cabniet with Celestion GT 75 which are punching out the mids very nicely.... the best I have heard.  Tried the Vintage 30,,,,,,what crap that was.

Does anyone know, for sure, what speaker is Trower's favorite and used most often?

Better wire means silver wire on the inside.....like Kimber cable stuff.  A custom made power cable.....and speaker wire to and in the speaker cabinet.  It all adds up to better prefromance piece by piece.

Thanks guys ...I will check into those RV4
3  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Sozo Caps- Help? on: August 18, 2010, 03:36:43 PM
Hi Guys,

I had greytech sound build me a Plexi 50.  I must say I love it.  We put in MM power and and output trannies...Axiom, better power caps, better pots, better wire.

The amp is broken in now and extremley clear and defined distortion, very tight bass with plenty of sustain.  I run one Mullard and Ecc83 seems to work best for me. Black Sable power tubes and a Sag 12ax7 in the driver slot.

My sound is clear natural tube driven distortion, very tight, very full with plenty of headroom and harmonics. NO muck, no garble bettween notes. The only thing I did not do was the Sozo caps. So my question is, from some one who has put these in.  What will Sozo caps do to my sound?

Happkamp.

If you want to tweak your sound with more bottom end.....go to greytech sound.  Brian built me an awesome Plexi 50 with so much bottom tight sound, I sometimes have to roll off the Bass.  I think this sound you may be after requires MM power and output trannies....and the best power caps.  Hell, he even replaced the wire and upgarded every pot.  I have an amp with so much definition...it is not funny.  Once it broke in....I had the most natural sounding amp and if I want a heavy metal sound, it is there with the proper pedals.  But i assure you, this is not a heavy metal amp, it is a sollid rock and roll blues amp.

I think i have the best Plexi of them all, the only thing I did not do is the Soho caps.  Anyone, please tell me what that will do to my sound?  Take Care Happykamp
