And what about Sparkling.
If this amp sounds more or less like the DC30, It sure is "sparkling".

FIRST BUILD Huh?!!!! Shocked
You have more guts than I have.
My first build was a DC30. (second a Tweede Deluxe 5E3)
My Overtone kit is on it's way.  Smiley

Congrats!

21  Muchless / DC 30 / Re: C30 Rectifier - 1x GZ34 or 2x 5V4 on: January 18, 2008, 11:26:53 AM
can you use two gz34s for less sag?

I think that your amp will see to much voltage.

22  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Re: Clean 5E3 on: January 17, 2008, 07:27:34 PM
bendo,

I guess it's more clean because it's a different circuit.
probably a lame answer, sorry for that.  Embarrassed
But consider that the Blackface champ came later than the tweed 5E3.
In those years they wanted to design an amp that could play CLEAN.
you know, distortion is such an evil thing.  Grin
since the preamp has higher gain I think the differences are in the poweramp. (biasing?)

Anybody can tell in english what the technical reason is?

Thanks

same here, Made a 5E3 with my gretsch (with dynasonic pups) it stay's clean till just about 2.
It loud enough for recording but for playing live you will need to mike it up. ( if you want clean)
It's a really nice clean tone though.  Cool
I'm also thinking on buying a vibrochamp.
Or maybe something custom?  Wink
24  American Style / BF Champ, Vibro Champ / Re: BF Champ, Vibro Champ SoundClips on: January 12, 2008, 01:10:25 AM
Wow! Timd, very nice playing. (and sound)
My 5E3 is almost finished so maybe I'll build a vibro champ next.  Smiley
Maybe I would better spend some money on lessons instead of another amp. Embarrassed
Anyway, congrats on your sound AND playing.
25  Website, Store / Suggestions / Re: Early 60's 6G6 Blonde Bassman Head With 63 reverb! on: January 10, 2008, 12:13:56 PM
that would be cool  Smiley

here is the VK schematic...

Kind of like that, but with A 6K6 in the reverb like the original Fender Outboard reverb.
Basically a 6G6 blonde with a outboard reverb glued to it BEFORE the amp.
So signal goes guitar->REVERB->amp.

IMHO the vibro king is a bit stiff sounding.

26  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Re: 5E3 Tweed Deluxe SoundClips on: January 08, 2008, 10:34:13 PM
indeed a nice sound!
It sounds "nicer" than my 5E3. (and you sure play a lot better than me)
27  Muchless / DC 30 / Re: Is the DC30 too harsh? on: December 30, 2007, 10:11:30 AM
I like it for rock. Can't get a really good jazztone out of it.
Maybe because I can't play jazz  Wink
Channel one is "vox" sparkle. Very good for country IMHO.
When turned up it rocks. (with a tubescreamer in front, it sounds nice)
Most of the time I play channel two.
This is really a rock channel. I LOVE that sound!
With my gretsch silver jet I can get this Malcolm Young kind of grind with the volume between 9 'O clock and 12 'O clock.
As someone pointed out allready, for jazz the 5E3 sounds better. (and can also rock very nice!)
And is not to loud. The DC30 is very loud.

Hope to have helped

28  Muchless / DC 30 / Re: C30 Transformers? on: December 30, 2007, 10:03:41 AM
Hi,

I use Westlabs in my amp.
I can't compare with Nik's or the other brand tranformers but westlabs sure sound good.
My DC30 is a very (first?) early one. I asked Nik for a kit in octobre 2005.
After some naging from my side, Nik decided to make one.
At that moment I didn't know about Ceriatone (and Nik), so no idea that those trannys where any good.
This year I made a 5E3 kit with ceriatone tranformers. I must say I like 'm VERY much!
So no other tranformers in this kit.
If I would make another DC30 it would be with Ceriatone transformers. (Those Westlabs are really good but VERY expensive)

And now I'm saving to buy another Ceriatone kit.
It's a bit like with tattoo's, you start with one... (BF champ or vibro champ or 18watt, decisions, decisions,...)

Hope to have helped,
Greetings from Belgium

Jesse

29  Website, Store / Suggestions / Early 60's 6G6 Blonde Bassman Head With 63 reverb! on: December 10, 2007, 08:21:57 PM
Now that would be great, a Early 60's 6G6 Blonde Bassman Head but only one channel.
And a fender 6G15 "standalone" reverb in place of the removed channel.
Like a vibroking but better  Grin
I have a 6G15 (reissue) , but having it in my amp would be even better!

Signalchain: guitar->reverb->amp. (so reverb before the preamp, or switchable before/after?)

PLEASE Nik  Smiley
