1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Changing the OD voicing on an HRM BM100? on: November 13, 2010, 05:39:58 AM
Thanks for more ideas guys, very helpful. I have been using my Boss EQ with the OD channel and the stuff I want to hear more of is in the 400-800K range. When I boost up that section of the EQ, the OD channel is perfect.

JD, would the mods you stated hit the midrange around that area? Thanks!

Could you describe this in more detail? This could work....

Or you could use another relay board and use it to switch mid boost along with the OD... perhaps

Thanks for the ideas. My HRM trimmers were originally set the way you describe. Sounds good here at the house but not enough mids to cut through for me in live situations.

Don't mess with component values just yet.

Try the following settings instead :

Bass down to 73k from 500k (you are at noon)
Treble about 40% up. (around 11 o'clock)
mids on 4.45k (thats 1/4 of what you have now)

(OD gain trim) at 20k to ground.

These settings works excellent on my 100 w bluesmaster.

The bass/mid relationship is the key to great sounds on a BM,  IMO

Hi guys,

I have an HRM BM100. I really like the clean channel but I am still struggling with getting enough mids out of the OD channel. I am getting lost in the mix at gigs. I have adjusted the internal HRM trimmers and I have the mid control maxed, the bass around noon and the treble very low, almost off but it still sounds mid scooped to me. I have the OD trimmer at like 9' o clock and the Drive knob never past 6. I want to change the OD voicing of the amp so it is less mid-scooped, more Marshall-y like a '74 JMP that I have. What would I need to change component-wise to do this? I have modded amps before so I'll make sure I drain the caps. Thanks!

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing after my first gig with the amp. You really need to have the bright switch on for the clean channel but with it on, the OD is pretty harsh. I have the HRM treble trimmer set very low now and it has smoothed out the harshness while still retaining the chime in the clean channel. It's a big sounding amp live!

Since then
My problem with the BM is that it's too dark with bright off and too bright with it on (with no OD).
I usually set presence to 2/10 on all my amps.
Solution for me is dial bass down a little, and set presence to 7/10, probably need to set the HRM treble trimmer lower still
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Hiss problem with Bluesmaster, Loopalator and TC2290 on: August 29, 2010, 06:27:17 PM
Thanks again for the great help guys. If the 2290 had a faulty opamp, would it make that sound running solo into my amp? Or would the Loopalator need to amplify it? Right now, if I run either of them into my amp by themselves, they are very quiet. The problem it seems, to be how the 2290 and the Loopalator are interacting. I tried a Art Cleanbox between the two to see if a ground loop was happening with no luck but maybe I should go with the Ebtech hum eliminator, from all reports more effective. The sound is definitely more hiss than hum though, so I think it's a signal issue more than power related.

The Minimix seems like a great idea. I will definitely look into that. I will either try that or just sell the Loopalator as the 2290 sounds just fine by itself in the amp's loop.

Thanks for the idea. No success unfortunately if I run the TC input low or high, or the Loopalator low or high. If I run the delay volume around 50 on the TC, the hiss is hardly noticeable. For some presets this is fine, but others I need to have the mix high, in the 90's where it is noisy right now.

Well, sorry to hear that. Sounds like your 2290 could have a faulty OPamp somewhere.

If you ran the system in parallel, you surely would have less trouble. Some people with similar machine park as yours, use a Shur minimix II and report having fine results (like Dogears aka Scott Lerner).

8  Ceriatone / Overtone / Hiss problem with Bluesmaster, Loopalator and TC2290 on: August 28, 2010, 05:45:34 PM
I've done a lot of reading on the forum and tried a bunch of stuff with this issue with no success.

I am having trouble with a lot of hiss when interfacing a TC2290 and a Bludotone Loopalator (Dumbleator-style tube buffered FX loop) in my rig. My Ceriatone HRM Bluesmaster is connected to the Loopalator via 1/4" cables. I am then running the 2290 in the loop of the Loopalator with 1/4" cables as well. (tried XLR to 1/4" with the same result). The loopalator has a Drive knob which is the send level to the 2290 and then an Output knob which controls how much volume goes back to the amp. Regardless of where I have the amp's master, the 2290's input, or the Loopalator's Drive level set at, I am getting a lot of hiss when I turn up the Output of the Loopalator. If I click the Delay off on the 2290, no hiss, so it doesn't look to be a ground loop. When I run the delay level on the 2290 at around 50, the hiss is pretty much gone, when the delay level is high at 95, it is terrible. As well, when I plug the loopalator or the 2290 by themselves into the FX loop of the amp, they sound quiet and fine. Ground loop, noise floor issues, rfi problem? Thanks for any help!!!

No worries, thanks for the recommendation. I actually bought the amp used so I am assuming it's had a bit of burn in time. The clean channel already sounds a lot like a great blackface Fender Twin I once owned!

Also, have any of you moved the HRM controls to pots on the outside of the back of the chassis?

Perfect, thanks for the info, very helpful.
11  Ceriatone / Overtone / Question about HRM Bluesmaster internal trimmers on: August 15, 2010, 01:36:02 AM
Hi guys,

I just got an HRM 100w Bluesmaster and I am just starting to get it tuned. Do the internal trimmers only function in the circuit when the PAB is on? Or do they work on the OD channel regardless if the PAB is on or not?

Also, would a common way to set up an HRM be to get a clean sound you are happy with and then tweak the OD/PAB via the internal trimmers to get the OD happening?

Thanks!!  Grin
