1  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: reducing power of JTM45? on: April 10, 2010, 11:10:20 PM
Attenuators have been on my mind, but idk if I want to fork over the cash right now. I'm looking into either the THD Yellow Jackets that convert the power tubes to EL84s or a VVR, which seem to be more economic from my standpoint. Has anyone here had any luck with either of these two products?
2  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / reducing power of JTM45? on: April 02, 2010, 07:23:14 PM
Hey I'm expecting a Ceriatone JTM45 clone in the mail pretty soon and, being concerned about the level of noise i would be making if I cranked it up, I had a half power pentode/ triode switch installed. I have heard mixed things about the tonal characteristics of the the amp when the switch is thrown, so I'm thinking of trying to reduce the power of the amp using any other alternative ways. I also had a PPIMV installed, but am hoping I can keep that on 10 for the majority of the time.
My question is, what are some methods I can use to reduce the amp's power while avoiding any circuit modification? Specifically, I have heard that changing the type of power tubes from kt66's will have some effect. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? Any information will be greatly be appreciated by my ears, neighbors, and jam mates for sure
3  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Bass through the JTM45? on: March 21, 2010, 04:39:48 AM
I was wondering if it is possible to plug a bass into Ceriatone's JTM45 without any of the components being damaged. I have always wanted to play a bass through a tube amp and my friend has a 4X10 cab that I'm thinking of plugging it into if anyone else has tried this without blowing anything sky high. I know many amps from back in the day, especially bass amps, could be used with both bass and guitar as long as they were paired up with the right speakers. Can anyone vouch for this?

I just shot him an email and he said they were actually out of transformers for a while but should be back on schedule and my amp should be sent out shortly. Best news I've heard all day! Grin

Hey that's pretty cool. You wouldn't mind letting me in on some of those tweaks and secrets would you? I feel like I could also really benefit from a quieter JTM45, well, my ears at least  Cheesy

Interesting. I will be able to find this out for myself when I actually get the amp, but what kinda effects does this mechanism have on the sound?
7  Website, Store / General / shipping time worries? on: March 12, 2010, 08:53:28 PM
I ordered a JTM45 pack from Nik recently, and when he confirmed the order he said it should ship out in about 4 weeks. Week 6 of wait is coming to an end now and I havn't heard anything from Ceriatone about my amp, and I kinda want to email Nik about it but i don't want to bother him or rush him or anything lame like that. Is this anything that I should be worrying about/ anything that anyone has experienced before?
8  Website, Store / Suggestions / Clone the Supro!! on: March 01, 2010, 07:30:11 PM
I don't know how many of you have heard of this amp before, but I think the Supro Thunderbolt (Model 6420) would be an awesome clone for Nik to make, and he would probably do it justice. They have such an original sound that you can't get from any other amp as far as I've heard. Check out these clips (not recorded by me).

9  Website, Store / General / what EXACTLY does a pentode/triode half-power switch do? on: March 01, 2010, 08:45:27 AM
The subject pretty much says it all. I would love to know exactly what's going on in the tubes when I flick the pentode/triode switch.

hey guys thanks for all the great info so far, keep it comin'. im also wondering, what is the benefit of using different tubes in different preamp spots, aka valve 1, 2, etc... what exactly do each of these do and what do they contribute to the amp's tone? im pretty much in the dark about that right now, other than that one of them is a phase inverter, and im not even really too sure what that means haha
11  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: tubes for new jtm45 on: February 01, 2010, 06:41:25 PM
aahhh i shouldve known better, but its too late i already ordered it without the tubes yesterday haha so im stuck with the task of ordering a bunch. I'm probably gonna go with the Gold Lion KT66's, but am still undecided on the preamp and rectifier tubes. Im probably gonna go with JJ's or Tung Sol's for each, any objections to either of these? and also, do i have to get a special balanced tube for the phase inverter, and does it really matter if i get matched triodes or not?
12  British Style / JTM 45, 50 / tubes for new jtm45 on: January 31, 2010, 05:46:30 AM
Hey guys, i just ordered a JTM45 from Nik and thus i am new to these forums. Anyway, during the 4 weeks wait time i gotta order some tubes to put in this baby, im definitely going with the classic KT66, GZ34, and 12AX7 tubes combo, but i am so torn between what brands to buy. What brand tubes do you guys have in your amps and how do you like them as compared with any other brands that you have tried?
