BluesFenderManBlues:  I would have to disagree in that it appears you feel that clones are identical or as good - they're not (sorry if I'm reading your post incorrectly).  For some it's a hobby to buy pedals/gear of the highest level, as some want 100% performance, just like buying a CS Fender, could you get a MIM Jimmie Vaighan Strat for $500 USD and pull shitty TexMex pickups for a set of Fralins or Lollars for another $250 and have a very good guitar....yes, will it be as good as a CS model...no.

This is not a negative post to you.
17  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Klon Centaur with OTS on: July 15, 2010, 09:46:53 PM
Bluesfendermanblues:  Not spoiling the fun, what people don't understand about the Klon is that it's not really used as a OD pedal but as a clean boost - people should say, save $200-300 or more and get a Kealey Katana (great pedal), which I have and recently did a sound test between them:  Results were Katana colored the sound a little, but some would might like, as it made tone sound fatter, where the Klon made the amp sound larger.

For all, IMHO, if cash is tight and always wantes a Klon and don't want to wait for Bill to release new unit in a smaller package, get a KATANA. As witrh the Klon, experiment with it stacked in front and behind an OD pedal with gain set between 9am and 12pm. - this is how I run my SOV-2.

Just my feedback.
18  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Klon Centaur with OTS on: July 09, 2010, 12:20:31 AM
Just got mine, very nice.  I use a SOV-2 OD in front of it and keep gain on Klon between 6-8 pm , almost nothing.  I leave the Klon on all the time at current moment and o to the SOV-2 for leads.  Klon sonds best with a cranked amp, but what good boost or od pedal doesn't IMO.

I did a test between Klon vs Keeley Katana, being used as a Clean Boost and I would say the Klon was a 10 and Katana was a 8. That being said for $150-$200 for Katana, it might be a better value if on a budget.

Bills launching a new Klon (same spec, but in a smaller package), but taking for ever - so I got a good deal for a brand new one a guitar player had sitting in his closet never used for $500.00, which is too much, but better then the $700-$1,000 they fetch....crazy.  Once people knew recently that Jeff Beck and John Mayer were using them and newer ones in Silver with no horsey.....price jumped a bit.

Anyone on forum using a Klon Centaur with their OTS, if so, are you stacking with another OD, using as a boost, etc, etc - please share where in your pedal line you're using t and how.

Thanks.

I've heard good things about Ethos, I think a large unit though.   If not playing a Ceriatone and want that Dumble-ish tone, you might want to look at a ZenDrive or Dumkudo pedal, I've played these and they turn an amp into Dumble-ish like amp IMO.
21  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Anyone own an Overtone in California? on: June 30, 2010, 09:15:19 PM
Hey is there anyone else in california that still has a ceriatone i can try out? Smiley

I would try to get to Orange County and see Jerry, so if you like it, he can build it for you and tweak if necessary, he's an amp tech. builder if I recall.
22  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Pedals Positions without FX LOOP?? on: June 25, 2010, 05:48:03 AM
+1 Bob.

For my tone, I keep cable to a minimum in my FX to reduce tone loss (more cable, more tone loss IMO), so pedals sit on top of amp and always left on: Reverb and Delay through Kleinulator in FX.

In front of amp: tuner, clean boost, od, od, Univibe, delay (bare minimum settings, but always on) and loop pedal.  I use clean channel on amp only, but love to plug straight into amp with no pedals up front and use amp OD channel at times with just FX effects.

You need to experiment - it takes a little time before you go BAM...that's my tone!!!!

Good Luck!!
23  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Anyone using or tried a Clapton Strat through an Overtone? on: June 10, 2010, 05:22:21 PM
I have EC through OTS 50-watt, sounds great, thick and sustains forever.  However, EC guitar also sings with an OD pedal in front of my Fender Tweed Blues Jr as well.

If you play other Strats and then go back in and forth with EC Strat, has always been problematic for me via volume level differences.

Look forward to seeing where Matt goes, love his playing and straight forward tone.
27  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: John Mayer Tone with OTS? on: May 25, 2010, 06:31:30 PM

Matt is certainly not fickle and whilst he got a good deal I imagine, he paid his onw hard earned for his EZG-50. The reason for the change was mostly for simplicity but also to get away from the comparisons with RF and the Dumble clone hype. I have to say I think he sounds better through his new rig, but its only a 1% thing, he always has had a phenomenal tone.

I agree. He just wanted a simple setup and the Dr Z sounds like his Super Reverb. No edorsement deal there. He had a Matchhless he realy likes in the van as well.
He did say he was picking up his Bludo (the one he has now is borrowed).
He also said that the good amps are all pretty good and it's only the last few % that's makes the difference.

So is he going to add Bludo when he gets one and if so will this be his primarsy amp?  Matt has made mention of this amp, why I was surprised about Dr. Z.

When I played a Bludodrive, was very nice, but that day (Amp Show), I played a lot of great amps, but liked the Two Rock Classic Reverb - beautiful cleans and great reverb (I like reverb) in a single channel amp that takes pedals beautifully.

I hpe Matt gets to play in OC Calif. one day.

29  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: VOTE NOW!! Best Stock Overtone for Cleans? on: May 21, 2010, 10:47:19 PM
Sorry, that was not the question/poll.  Questions was what Ceriatone OTS model has the best clean channel in stock form - no mods.
30  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: John Mayer Tone with OTS? on: May 21, 2010, 08:39:11 PM
you won't find a clear answer here I'm afraid. These amps are very tempramental. Sometimes I even feel my OTS doesn't sound the same every day. The tubes you put in these amps also have a big impact on the sound. Plus people tweak them. I feel you need to get used to these amsp and stick with it. Sometimes it's a bit of a struggle but it's worth it.

I had an interesting talk with Matt Schofield last night. He's on tour and didn't bring his TwoRock. He wanted a simple setup. He said the Dumble style amps he owns are to sensitive to different voltages etc etc. Minor things have an influence on the sound.

There are some excelent examples on YouTube of people using different types of Ceriatones.

an example of a great sounding Bluesmaster

+1, I agree, they can be a little sentimental, somedays they sound better then others, but always good. I don't think if you're looking for Mayer tone that a Ceriatone is your missing ingredient sorry.  Your Fender Twin on clean channel with some reverb played, Strat with scooped pickups and two OD pedals stacked in front (one on all the time with drive set to 7-9pm - alomst nothing and the other -in front with higher OD setting should put you as close as you'll ever get - the rest is in the fingers. By settign this up this way, all you have to stomp on is one OD pedal when time to solo via blues tone he has in Trio.
