1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS lunchbox 20 sounding "tinny" on: April 09, 2015, 04:45:55 PM
I too thought this lil amp was a bit bright when I first got it and the OD was kind of buzzy with a farty low end... Sounded just ok with my LP and 335 but a bit bright with the strat. But alas, I'm a strat guy...I had bought a tonetubby low watt alnico12" hemp to try ( as I'm a bedroom play these days) but it turned out to be a bit boxy sounding ( it sounds great in SFDR tho')...I had a very old EVM 12s that I put into a small , open back pine cab and that helped a lot. So I decided to wait a while and let the amp break in some more but it never quite got as warm as I hoping for.  What really did the trick was to put EH12ax7 in V1,V2 and Sovtek12ax7LPS in V3( all from Doug's) which really smoothed out the overall tone and has added a 3D vibe...now this is one sweet sound with my strat ( the strat has Kerry Learned '64 pups).  I think the JJ's  pre-amp tubes were a bit harsh sounding for my taste. There is still a few mods I"d like to try, but at this moment I'm happy with it so far. I also got the Klienulator which adds a bit more control to the overall tone.
2  Ceriatone / Overtone / OTS20 Lunchbox arrived... on: June 06, 2014, 07:54:18 PM
I ordered a stock OTS20 thru the US Dist. along with a klein-ulator. ( thanks go to Wilcox for the suggestion)

They arrived at my door in about 3 weeks , give or take.
Packaged very well and no problems. Got a bill from DHL for $20.00 for customs - that was expected.

First impressions are --wow, this thing has some tones. The bottom end is big and punchy, mids for days and plenty of high end. It is very touchy and the slightest lil change to any control offers a change to the character. Fairly loud for 20w.

I ran it through an old EV12L to start with...I thought " Oh no, is this thing BRITE!!!"
Then I tried a 12" Black Shadow that is my my old Boogie and some of the highs were tamed which improved the sound for me.
I think I'm going to try a Cannibis Rex or something similar or perhaps even G12-30 or 65. Any suggestions???

Took a week or two to dial in a somewhat suitable over drive so far...cleans are no problem. The Klein-ulator adds something nice to the mix too.
Strat w/ CS69's - bitey & very brite but workable with tone controls, etc.
Les Paul Deluxe (mini-humbuckers) really cuts through with lots of snap.
ES-335 is warm, fat and a sweet spot was easy to find for cleans.
It also plays nice with my Ibanez GB-10

Thanks to Jun for offering up a his mods to smooth things out a bit, which I will try after a period of breaking in.
I'd also like to attempt to incorporate some the mods Jack Z did to his ODS..if possible(Huh?)

Overall, I'd say this an impressive lil box.  I"m still on the fence about it as its a "bold" lil sucker. I've gotten used to my old Fender Deluxe Rev. and Vibrolux that aren't quite sooo in your face...time will tell, I suppose.

Very nice job on the OTS20.

I like your sweet soulful sound.  Nice touch.

I'm planning to get one very soon.
Any chance you would share the modifications you did to sweeten the OD section??
Your tone is very much what I'm hoping for.

Thanks Todd.

I appreciate your response. I guessed that mods from the US dist would probably not be allowed. While on their site, if I calculated correctly, a stock box would be somewhat cheaper than ordering directly from Nik(Huh?)

I was thinking to go just the stock route to start with as I'm not sure which mods, if any, I should get with this head.

If I may, what exactly is the PPIMV mod???

Thanks again for your help.

edit- so dumb me, I used the search function and find that a PPIMV is PostPhaseInverterMasterVolume.   Would that be necessary on a 20w amp???
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / Where to buy an OTS20 on: April 03, 2014, 08:39:34 PM
HI , new guy here.
I first heard about Ceriatone years ago but never pulled the trigger. Been away from guitar for a long while but recently picked it back up.
I've been reading about and listening to the clips of the OTS 20 and it seems like a sweet rig.

My question is now I see 2 places in which to purchase a Ceriatone. One is direct from Nik, Ceriatone.com and then there is a US distributor --> ceriatone.net.
Does anyone have any input on the latter of the two???  Looks like their prices are a bit less , too.
Would appreciate any opinions.

I have to say I've appreciated all the good information being given here at the forum - thank you.
