1  Muchless / DC 30 / Two Build Questions on: January 08, 2011, 07:55:43 AM
Hello all

First question.... I asked Nik but did not get a response, I am having trouble working out where to put the I K K L M N connections on the 8 way switch provided.

Also, cable to hook up the effects loop, I am assuming it is the shielded cable provided. Do I just use 4 lengths of cable using the centre wire. In the old pics on the ceriatone site, they seemed to be using different cable at the time they took the pics.

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you

Howdy all.

I read your posts, and looks like an interesting amp.

Can anyone point me to sound clips?

I have built two ceriatones the Champ and the 18 watt TMB.

Any tips regarding this build. I just emailed Nik and his crew if I can get one without the board wired up.

Howdy all

I built this amp earlier this year, finally got around to posting it on youtube.

They really are a great amp. I apologise for the woeful audio quality.

anyway, here it is

Fixed, bit thought I would post in case anyone is interested.

After much rooting about, it turned out to be a bad power tube.

I should have checked tubes first, but in my mind the problem was presenting like a bad solder in the power section or something like that.

here are some gut shots I took for Nik. Its not tidied up yet as I was waiting until I fixed the problem

and here are some progress photos I was doing as I went

Can you take some voltage readings with all the pots on Zero, the Trem turned off, and the power tubes out of the chassis? It could be a lot of things, including bad power tubes. You can put the power tubes back in and see if your volt readings change.
Do you have a light bulb limiter?

I can do that.

No I don't have a bulb limiter.... I probably should make one.

Thanks
7  British Style / 18 Watt / Problem with a build...fixed and some photos on: January 31, 2010, 07:50:07 AM
I just built a ceriatone 18 watt TMB.

Plugged it in worked great. Cranked it up and the sound started dropping in and out, then it stopped, then a electronics burny smell. I figured out that the he1K5 5 W  Resistor that runs across the 32uF/32uF was burnt out.

I had another one the same so I soldered it in and the amp works again.

BUT..... It is showing the same symptoms as before.....If I crank up the sound cuts out, so I have turned it off so I do not cook that resistor again. Seems OK at low volumes but I do not want to push my luck by testing it for an extended period.

I did take it to a tech prior to turning it on just so he could check it over, so I am 99% sure it is wired fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. I might have a go at a harder build next.

Thansk to those that helped.

Here is a YouTube clip

I can help you, I built one of these heads.  What did you want to know exactly? I tried your email but, I got a failure notice.

That's because I can't type  Embarrassed here is my email: mail@richiegrenfell.com

The reason I was after pics is because I find it easier to refer to pictures as well as the diagram. Also I can copy how the wiring is done.

Thanks hired hand

Hello All

I am building my first amp, The Vibro Champ.

I have got as far as wiring in the Power Tranny. I am enjoying a new challenge. The main trouble I am having is identifying the resistors. The colors are a bit misleading.... Or maybe my eyesight is going  Sad

Does anyone have a bunch of Hi Res pics of the wiring from as many angles as possible ? I am going OK but it would be great to have some photos for reference as well.

If anyone can help out it would be greatly appreciated. My email is mmail@richiegrenfell.com

Thanks very much

Richard
11  American Style / BF Champ, Vibro Champ / Kit should arrive this week on: December 14, 2009, 07:56:26 AM
This will be my first electronics project since I was a kid and built doorbells and eggtimers from little kits.

I have a amp repair mate to help me out, but I may post some dumbarse questions here if thats ok.

12  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Pics of completed Overtones on: April 01, 2009, 07:43:43 AM
Here is my hack job overtone. Made of 100% recycled poop. Cab is from a 90s powerchorus, modded to fit. the speaks are Fender stockers. I have tested the OT with three speaks that I have, the fenders (Brightest), a Music Man from the early 80s stamped C12G, which I suspect is a celestion G (happy in-between, good match for the amp), and a tone tubby alnico hempcone (very dark). I am probably going to put the tubby in here with one of the fenders for a makeshift "the bomb" setup.

Pics are the junk guts of a transistor fender amp and then the amp as it sits right now. I need to remember to put the switch to 16 ohm before I fire it up Smiley

It must be fun rocking up to a jam or a gig and you have dudes freaking out how awesome an old shitbox fender sounds.

Nice one

Thanks again. There's not many actual  components in that old amp.

I might have a go at that one as a start.

Thanks for that. Which amp is that copying?

Hello all

I want to have a go at building an amp from a kit. I have never tried it  before. I am competent with a soldering iron and consider myself to have a technical mind.

What kit would be a good starter for someone like me.

Thanks
