1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Starting the HRM Bluesmaster 100 build on: March 14, 2013, 08:24:49 AM
I should reintroduce my self i posted a couple of times a year ago but a few of life's interruptions put a damper on the amp building,
Hi to everyone and thanks for the knowledgeable input, i still have a lot theory to learn.
Things are starting to move along with the boys at the local sign shop bending a 2mm aluminum sheet into a chassis for a 6 pack of beer
they baulked at cutting all the holes guess I'll have to do that my self ,  good thing i have my dads old chassis hole cutters from his mono HiFi amp building days.
Preamp tubes are the last parts i have to order, after reading all the posts here i have settled on 2 tungsol reissues in v1 +v2 and a Sovtek LPS   i had to make a decision as there were many combinations  that folks like personally . Been reading a few negative reports about tungsol reliability issues hope they have resolved those problems  never really thought about preamp tubes but i know better now, have to choose one for the c/lator build as well i'm thinking jjeec 83 any suggestions would be welcomed gladly.

Thanks hywelg for steering me over to the garage, i'm on the right track now concerning those caps,
sure is a lot of reading and learning to be done over there.

Well not physically at the moment just finished working out all the parts i need [ Mouser + Antique Electronic Supply ] what a daunting exercise i'm all googled out and need eye drops ! Chair Dance  I'll be making turret boards as i'm only ordering transformers from ceriatone [ his trannies in the FM 50 sound fine to me ], emailed Nik  about what type of resisters to use in various parts of the amp, had a reply  within the hour there must be ten of him. He's the man ! very helpful as i'm using his layout, the only parts i haven't ordered are the 20 uf +200uf filter caps they seem to be not  popular i'm thinking F+T 22uf + 220 uf caps will those extra 2+ 20 uf's change the characteristics of the amp ? Should i stick to the original specs may be some of the learned folk round here could ease the dilemma , I'm thinking of documenting and taking pics of the build, is another build thread needed ?

After doing a search on the forum i believe the caps i mentioned are filter caps, from what i can gather  some folk change them to tighten up the bass.
I'll stick to the layout cap values for starters.

Great suggestion Micinku i was thinking along those lines [ Bluesmaster not Bluesbreaker ]  i think the BM will be my next amp build, the more i read here the better they are sounding. I have an early F series strat and  ES 335 from what i read it should offer versatility for both those guitars.
The seed has been planted ! I'm 99% sure the Blusmaster is the way to go.
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / FM 50 ME Finished , need to build another amp on: February 19, 2013, 07:14:19 AM
Finally built the FM 50 modern eagle , being my first amp build i couldn't have done it with out the help of this forum, my thanks to everyone.  Smiley
The only problem i had was upon turning the amp on there was no sound coming forth, checked all the wiring and solder joints no problem there,
turned out i had orientated one of the relays around the wrong way. What a great amp ! just love it

This amp building caper is addictive, enjoyable and very satisfying, i need to build another one I'm thinking maybe an overtone 100 special or a bluesbreaker
something with different tone to the FM 50 Me. Any suggestions out there anyone !

I'm thinking of building my own boards next time just for the fun of it and order the trannies from Nick as they are expensive in Australia and the postage from
Malaysia to Oz is not to bad .
Been looking at the ots  100 special layout the board [power] next to the main transformer calls for 2/ 200uf 300 caps 2/ 22uf 500v and 1/22uf 450v
Looking at other gut shots of the ots 100 the same board has different cap values 2/ 200uf 350v  2/20uf 600v and 1/22uf 450v .
As my theory knowledge is not that great at the moment can someone help with which way to go with those cap values are they that critical.
  Thanks in advance

Thanks for the encouraging words folks and good to see a couple of fellow Aussies as well , I still haven't opened Nicks box of analogue treasures that he sent me as i am stuck down south due to some major floods. Hope to start the build asap anyway i have built an African rosewood amp cabinet that will house the D/Lator and another rack unit may be a lexicon 200 for a little delay and Leslie, anyone have any thoughts on them ? they seem ok for the $'s.

Plasticvonaband i think you could well be right about Nick i think he has been transported here to save us from the cyber transistor aliens and the doof pc's.

Being my first amp build i have found some great tips here eg where to start, making a template to mount the pots and solder them together before installing them in the chassis and many other great tips.

9  Ceriatone / Overtone / FM 50 ME Delivered on: February 17, 2012, 08:30:37 AM
Hi folks, My fm 50 me kit 2 and D/lator kit has arrived delivery time was quick about 2 weeks, unfortunately i'm interstate so i cant check out the goodies inside the boxes [ very frustrating ] k Nick is a very helpful chap in helping me make up my mind which one to order ! his reply's were so quick i don't think i had even finished typing my question. This will be my first amp build i will be taking my time with the build, thanks to the wealth of knowledge people contribute on this forum i feel confident it will all go well.

Ordered a couple of speakers from wgs an et 65 and veteren 30 not bad prices and postage costs to Australia as speakers a quite expensive here, plan on building 212 dumble style cabinet. Cant wait to get home and start the  build and asking lots of questions i hope not to many, just fair warning in advance.
