When I'm back at the house wehre I keep my overtone, I'll take a picture of the tubes so you guys can see what they really are, cause when it comes to tube knowledge I'm obviously pretty innept.

Ceriatone / Overtone / Amp works great with Sovtek tubes!

I recently put some NOS sovtek 6l6's from the 80's in my new overtone, because to me the amp (with its original tubes) were extremely harsh, stiff, and needed to be played at loud volumes to get anything close to decent sounds, and all of the sudden, the amp is perfect!
It's got an unbelievable natural compression to it now. Every note I hit is just gushing from my fingers, and going all the way to my ears. It's an incredible feeling! All of the harshness is done away with, and most importantly, it sounds great at ANY volume. Maybe it's just cause the tubes are old, but it doesn't matter, because it's amazing now.
I actually liked the amp with this change so much that, even though the amp was only finished 4 days before the recording of my new album, I chose to use it for 100% of the leads! I brought my Dr Z Maz 38, thinking it would be great for the job (don't get me wrong, it's a great amp), but when i pluged into the Ceriatone it just felt so perfect that I couldn't bring myself to unplug from it. The recording engineer liked it so much he asked me to leave it with him, forever. I gave him the link to the ceriatone site.
I love this amp so much! I'm actually thinking of building another ceriatone, maybe a TW clone like the Liverpull or expression. Has anyone else tried these? If so do you like them as much as the overtone?
Glad to see this amp is as popular as it is! It certainly deserves attention.

It works now!
I measured the plate voltage at on the preamp tubes and was getting 0v. I traced that to a wiring error on the cap for the FET pre-amp. I had used the center lug and that one is grounded directly to the chassis. I moved it over and the amp came to life!
Sounds awesome. I did a quick run through of the controls and I think it is pretty my functional. It sounds sweet!

Thanks, I will check out that link!
I did ring out the amp wiring this morning but didn't find any mistakes or issues. I still get no sound from the amp at all unless I plug into the effects return jack. Here is what I am observing.
1. The amp is silent now matter how much I turn up any control 2. The position of the switches on the front panel make no difference 3. I have a power indicator light 4. All the tubes glow on standby and operate 5. The power amp is working when plugged into the effects return jack 6. The foot switch lights operate 7. Standby works correctly... the power amp mutes when standby is activated 8. There is no hum buzz or other noises. 9. There is also no sound when plugged into the FET input
So that's where I'm at right now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I powered up and the amp is partly working. All 5 tubes glow on standby and operate. I don't get any sound with a guitar connected to the main input. I do get sound if I connect to the effects loop return. I am out of time for the day but plan to ring it out tomorrow.
Does anyone have suggestions on what to look for or a good approach to start-up trouble shooting these symptoms.?

Ceriatone / Overtone / Quick question
|

This is a little curious:
Almost finished with amp build, but just noticed the PAB/OD Manual/Pedal switches' wiring diagram on the layout is the mirror image of the pictures of the same part of the amp from the ceriatone site. I haven't had this problem with any other parts of the layout so far.
So my question is, Which is right? It's my first instinct to go with the layout, but the pictures are of a working amp, so there might've been a reason for that too.
Thanks,
-Andrew

I'll go first then.
That's really quite beautiful, hywelg. did you make the cabs yourself or did you buy them somewhere? Also is the speaker cab 1x12 or 2x12. Thanks!
