1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Bias too low... on: April 12, 2009, 11:20:14 AM
Hi, I'm running my Ceriatone HRM with a "reduced" B+ of 405V, the OD channel is fantastic, smooth and creamy, but measuring the bias, with the standard circuit, I obtain values that are a bit low for the current B+ value...
Is it correct to downsize the 1K2 resistor right out the bias tap or the 15k on the bias pot?
Thanks for the help...

no significant changes from the last version of the amp, just more confidence and experience with it...

you can easily do the mod and try the effect...
the sound will be much brighter and bass heavy, in a single word, scooped.
there will be more gain and volume, but I suspect that a Dumble style amp without neg fbk will not sound so good.
NEG FBK is used to narrow the frq spectrum, flattens the amp response and tame the gain...if you took the neg fbk from an higher ohmage tap, such as 8 or 16, and you left unvaried the remain of the loop circuit, you are injecting a larger tension back to the PI.
The result is a darker and flatter sound, less gain and a bit less volume...
An interesting mod is to put a pot in series with the tap and a swtich to select between various taps.
with the pot you can esasily control the quantity of neg fbk going back into the circuit and with the switch you control where to take this fbk...
I've done this mod on my sloclone amp and it is very useful.

Hi

Indeed, hi gain stuff is something we need to go into.

Not sure yet what'd be the first we do.

  Thanks!

Nik

If you try to make a MarkIIC+ I think that you will sell thousands...;-)

Hi to all of you
new here, but I own a fantastic Overtone...
It's a 100version, custom wired form Nik when the 100w version was not even available, customized with trannies wounded on my specs here in Italy...
What you are going to listen is a HIGHLY ATIPICAL use for this amp, but I SWEAR YOU on what I've got of most treasurable and loved that is STRICTLY an overtone without any booster in front.
Only and I repeat, ONLY a Boss Ge7 in loop, use to replicate the classic "V" eq seen on most mesa mark amp...
it's ALL the amp's gain and an ibanez rg1527 with a EVO7 pickup in the bridge...
I know that its hard to believe, but it's true...

That doesn't suprise me since I know that Mesa Mark I and Overdrive special are not so diffrent and since I've seen the SPM's clip who make some High Gain sample of the Overtone.

Who was talking about the versatility of the overtone  Grin Grin  Wink ?

Nice Clip and nice playing Wink

A DT's fan I presume ^^ !

thanks, yes I am a big fan of John, but I love also Carlton and Ford tunes and sounds...and in this amp now I can find any tone I want...it's just unbelievable...
