1  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: 1987x Blows fuses on standby on: June 01, 2010, 02:43:05 PM
Yeah, i understand what you mean about the tech. I probably won't be back there for a while.
I'm not very comfortable digging around inside of an amp
On the ceriatone website there is a link to an authorized tech about 45 mins away so i think i will take it there.
I have been e-mailing nik the past few days and he said it sounds like something is wrong in or around the switch.
I have to send him some picks when i get a chance to borrow my friends camera.

Hey guy, this one is kinda long
I got my 1987x with a PPIMV in the summer of 07
sometime between november of 08 and january of 09 one of the trannies blew (I can't remember if it was the output or power)
e-mailed nik, he sent me a replacement, i just had to pay the labor
this brings me to about aprilish of 09 the amp start blowing ht fuses when it is on standby or any period of time longer than a few seconds, it goes to my local tech two times to fix it, each time he says it's done but the problem is still there
so ever since then i have just been turning the amp on in playing mode (not standby)
This brings be to about 3 weeks ago, the amp start blowing the ht fuse ANYTIME no matter about the standby or not
So i call my tech and bring the amp to him (150 miles away)
he keeps it for a few weeks and retubes it ($115 bill)
got it back last night and this mother is still blowing fuses
could it be the preamp tubes, he said that the tested and looked find but he didn't replace them
He also says it works at his place but at my parent's house, my apartment, and my practice area it still blows fuses
please help me guys, i'm considering getting a new amp if i can't fix this. I really like this amp too

Oh Man, is this still going on?  Have you tried new power tubes?  Do you have a DMM?  You must have a short somewhere.  I would suggest trying power tubes that you know are good,  or you can even try your tubes in another amp.
Take your DMM, put it on the tone/buzz/bell/noise setting and start looking for a short to ground in the power supply and bias supply.  Where do you live?

What is a DMM?
i feel like i should already know that though...
i live in huntsville/tuscaloosa alabama
i really can't do a whole lot right now
my tech lives in huntsville (where my parents live) but i'm at school in tuscaloosa (2 1/12 hours away)
even local techs here send amps to my guy 2 1/2 hours away
i don't have two amps down here
i'm going home in a week and before i even get to my house i'm stoping by his place and show him exactly what it's doing.

I posted this in another thread but i figured i might get more help over here
I've had my 1987 for almost 2 years and a few months ago the power transformer blew and i got a new one (it was either the power or output i can't remember)
then recently it started blowing ht fuses to the point where everytime i turn it on it blows them and i can't play my amp
it has been to the tech and he has no idea what is wrong with he
he said he plugged it up to his cabinet and it worked fine
i can plug my amp into other cabs and it doens't work
and i can plug other amps into my cab and that works
any ideas, it's starting to get really old
thanks guys

here is the link to the old thread

what i cut was just what looked like a bridge between the two jacks in the speaker cab
but one of them has never worked so i just figured those could have been shorting out something
so when i cut it i re-fused and tried it again and it worked (at my house)
so then i packed my amp up and came down to uni
so my band down here was practicing i plugged my amp up
nothing
keeps blowing fuses

it has been at my amp tech's
he said once he replaced the fuse everything worked fine and he jammed with it for a while.
got it to my place and it blows them like no tomorrow
my tech thinks it's something to do with the speakers but i can't see any problems
there was a bridge (two wires connecting terminals) from one input jack to  the other but i cut that
the amp worked right after i cut it but not anymore
