1  Ceriatone / Overtone / OTS and a Xotic X-Blender? on: March 19, 2012, 12:33:32 AM
Has anyone tried to use an Xotic X-Blender in the passive loop of an OTS? Will it work as a loop buffer like the Klein, Verbrator, etc? Im curious to hear some feedback on the possibility that this unit may work well in this capacity. Thanks!

Like you said, these Champs are awesome amps but man I own 5 amps already... and I hate to sell this one but nowdays I rarely have any time to play any amp I have at home... I play my guitars at night when family is sleeping...
When I go out, I obviously take one of the bigger amps and this one is just sitting there... that's why I'm selling it.

...anyway thanks for the kind thoughts

This sounds familiar!!!! Im in the same boat brother. Any chance you would sell to someone in the US?

Way cool!!!

Thanks guys! That was my second time installing grill cloth and my first trying to install Vox cloth. Its turns out that it has its own difficulties because of the shapes. I had a hell of a time trying to keep all the diamonds straight and messed up on a couple of corners but...its the best I could do at the time.

I went with the diagonal speaker configuration to get some height out of the cabinet. I have a 64' Fender Blackface Bandmaster piggy back and you have to either tip the whole thing on its legs or step way in front of the amp to get the full effect of the cab. The diagonal config really makes a difference.

archelo,

Beautiful rig!!! If it sounds as good as she looks it's gotta be dynamite! Those 15's have to be nice and full!

212Mavguy,

I'm going to be running mine through a PA and I'll probably only have one mic on it.  The idea of a cab (or multiple) belnding two or more speakers is good, but utilmately I'll probably have to find the best single speaker to do the job.  Whatever that is....

I'll be test driving for a while before I pull the trigger.

Thanks Kevster...these are actually 12" speakers. Im not going the 15" route...Im a creature of habit.... Grin

Got the speaker in there today. It really sounds amazing in a different way than before. The WGS and G1265 spkr combo complement each other nicely. It does feel different to my fingers the way the amp reacts now. One thing I noticed immediately was the high end. Now it seems I can use the bright switch more effectively where before with just the G1265's, they could sound harsh or brittle. Now it just sounds clearer and yes...sweeter. I still like the G1265's but it is nice to have the option.

Heres my girl!

I need to get my recording stuff together to upload some audio.

I've had great success getting a killer strat sound on my OTS however...it does require me to change many of my normal HB settings. The first thing I do is boost the input gain.

I swapped the normal input pot for a push/pull bright switch. Also added a 3 position toggle for the bright switch. It allows me to completely remove the bright cap from the circuit or add two different cap values. This along with the push/pull gives me a bunch of different variables by combining the settings to tame or accentuate the brightness which really helped in quickly switching between my strats/teles and HB equipped guitars. Kind of difficult to do live of course but I've got it down to a science....LOL.

You are absolutely correct. The high power handling of this speaker must be why it sounds so nice with the OTS. Its interesting...this spkr combination seems to fill a void in the G12-65's frequency response that I never realized existed. Its like the WGS fills some gap that I never realized was there....or at least that's how I'm perceiving it.

Im going to have to go a head and put the WGS in the same cabinet with the G12-65 and re-examine this properly.

Ive read through many of the speaker threads but I'm looking for some advice. I have an OTS which I have been playing through a 2x12 with original Celestion G12-65's. Dont have to tell you how great it sounds.

I recently picked up a used WGS Blackhawk Alnico 100 watt speaker which I installed in a 1x12 cab that I use for smaller gigs with the same OTS. I figured I wanted to hear how an Alnico reacts to the OTS. Well....I have to say that it sounds pretty damn good. When I connected the 1x12 WGS and the 2x12 G12-65 together....I was blown away. To me, the mixture of the Alnico and Ceramic speakers sounded fantastic.

I have read many posts about the differences between the two types of speakers so Im well aware of the tonal variations and how they react to volume. What I'm looking for is some personal experiences from you guys that have possibly tried the Alnico/Ceramic combo on an OTS. Pros and cons...general opinions would be great. Thanks guys!

This is interesting...I left out the shielding in a 1987 head and it caused screeching sounds when i cranked the amp. I couldn't get the amp into OD without getting awful noises out of the amp. I originally thought it was bad preamp tubes but Nik suggested the shielding and completely fixed the problem. i guess every amp is different.
12  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Adding a Deep switch to a non-HRM OTS on: August 15, 2009, 09:49:30 PM
Thank you Mcinku....BTW...your posts and diagram on this subject is what inspired me to install this mod. The bright switch now is much more usable and the deep switch is perfect. Thanks a lot!
13  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Adding a Deep switch to a non-HRM OTS on: August 15, 2009, 09:17:35 PM
I just replaced the FET input as well with a deep switch. I did not however completely remove the FET board... just disconnected the wire from the FET input and shrink wrapped it. Is this OK or do I need to add that resistor? If I need to add, can you guys let me know where exactly it goes installed?
14  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: Had fun with TAD Tube Bones in my 1987 Plexi on: July 25, 2009, 03:45:35 PM
I use the Groove Tube version and it sounds fantastic. Volume becomes more manageable as the amp needs to be run open and the plexi tone comes through clearly. I didnt expect it to sound as good as it does. Now i can choose between EL34's and the EL84's depending on the gig. What a great product.
