Alright. That's what I was kind of afraid of.
But, I better get one of these clones while I can. Didn't nik discontinue them for a short time?

Thanks Pickmaster!
That really helps.
Well, looks like i'm going for the overtone.
The overtone seems more versatile too. And the extra mids would be nice since I play lead.
Now, do you know how long it takes for nik to actually build the amp and ship it out?
Or do you think it's easy enough to do myself or to order the kit and get it built by a local tech?

Thanks!
It did help a little bit, but i'm not sure if it helped enough.
What i'm planning on doing is getting something american voiced (out of the amps that I mentioned) this summer, and getting something british voiced like a budda superdrive or even one of the Marshall/Muchless/TW clones that nik puts out once I raise the money again.
And, a new option just opened up for me too. There's a used 64 vibroverb custom reissue at my store at a pretty discounted price too, which looks fantastic.

So, I am starting to lean slightly toward the overtone again, but does anyone know how long it would take nik to build it and ship it out? That's my main worry. I want to buy my amp in the early summer/late may and be able to use it with my band atleast for a few weeks out of the summer. I know that it would take atleast 6 weeks, as someone said below, which I can handle, but does it take longer sometimes?

Thanks, and if you can shed any light on which amp I should  get, that'd be very nice. I'm gonna end up playing all the ones I mentioned because they're at a local store. That's another reason why i'm kind of skeptical to get the overtone, because I can't play it in real life, and it takes a while to get to me.
4  Ceriatone / Overtone / Overtone v. Blackface? on: April 10, 2008, 03:29:40 AM
Hey,
I'm still contemplating between 3 or 4 different amps.
The overtone special was my original choice, but other opportunities are opening up at my local stores. There's a 1966 super reverb for under 2 grand, but i'm not sure if I want it (replacing resistors and stuff) . There's also a chicago blues box roadhouse for half price off it's original price (like 3 grand marked down to 1.5), and there's so many choices for me. And there's tons of silverfaces which I want to get modded.
Anyways, apart from that, I just need a bit help narrowing my choices down.
Basically, do you think an overtone has better all around tone than a bf super reverb?
If I can knock one of these amps out, I can decide easier.
I don't really want to judge from the clips, since I really haven't played an overtone in real life, so I want some feedback from owners.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hey,
I've heard someplace that the original overdrive special is based off of a fender blackface (not sure if they actually are though, could someone confirm this?).
How accurate is the overtone's cleans to a blackface's cleans? I'm looking around at vintage blackfaces, and I can afford one, but I'll have to worry about swapping out internal components. So, I thought i'd save myself some trouble by ordering by ceriatone. So, my question is essentially, "How accurate are the blackface's tones to the overtone's?

Thanks!

alright, I'm a major SRV fan, and the tone from Texas Flood is one of my favorite tones of his.
Thanks for all your help!
I'll probably order it in April, but I need to find a good cab for it.
I know I want an avatar, but what speaker config and what model of speakers should I get in it?

Any more opinions?
Is there a song by someone (not the sound clips) which the tone is easy to get with the OTS?

Hey,
I have found out about Ceriatone from ultimate-guitar.com, and I thought i'd buy one for my next amp. I'd probably buy an assembled head with it's cabinet, and just buy an avatar speaker cab.
Anyways, There's so many different choices of amps. And I can't decide on which one I want.
I will be using it for band practice and gigs, and to practice at home too.
I want a touch sensitive amp. This is VERY important. I want to be able to clean up my tone just by picking lighter. I don't know whether to get an American or British voiced amp. Here's a list of the tones I would like:

Early Clapton
Santana
Eric Johnson
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Jimi Hendrix

I'm just not sure if I should spring for a JTM45 or a Bandmaster, or one of the other clones (the Muchless and TW series).
The Overtone special also intrigues me. But, it's a fair amount more expensive than the other amps. Would it be worth it to save up for the OTS than to settle for one of the less expensive amps?

Oh, how much would Nik charge for shipping of a completed overtone (if I knew how much they weighed)?
I am leaning more towards the overtone more because I heard a few of the clips and thought it sounded excellent. Well, if the overtone has BF-like cleans, that's gonna be a deciding point for me, because I must have good cleans.
11  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: The Overtone Special... Worth the cash? on: March 25, 2008, 03:22:18 PM
All right, i'm leaning toward the overtone now.
Just one more question:
How much gain could the OS get? I do play stuff like Santana and Eric Johnson sometimes, and some of their stuff needs a fair amount of gain.
12  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: The Overtone Special... Worth the cash? on: March 25, 2008, 01:07:36 AM
Well, do you think it's worth the extra cash to get the OS?
I'd just get the head cabinet built by nik, i'd actually buy a speaker cab when I get it.
13  Ceriatone / Overtone / The Overtone Special... Worth the cash? on: March 24, 2008, 11:06:21 PM
Hey,
This summer, i'm gonna be getting jobs (i'm a teenager, and i'm looking for a nice recording and gigging amp for blues, jazz, and rock, and i've heard that these Overtone Specials are kind of based off of dumbles, which I adore the tone of). Anyways, since I don't have the patience or skill to build one from the ground up with a kit, i'm gonna have Nik build it, cab and all.
Well, if I get the Overtone built, and once I factor in the price for a cab, i'm gonna be spending around 1500 dollars. A decently steep price for a teenager such as myself who doesn't have a full time job (or a part time for that matter). But, if I were to get like a trainwreck clone, or a JTM45 BB built, the price would drop down to about 1000.
Would the overtone be worth the extra cash, or should I go for one of the tried-and-true JTM or Trainwrecks (or, even the matchless clones for that matter)?

Also, off topic... Does anyone know the wattage of the Overtone Special? I don't want too high of a wattage, nothing higher than 50, since I want to get plenty of power tube overdrive at small-gig volume without using an attenuator. And, is there some kind of warranty for amps when they're built by Nik?

Thank you!
