Hi, I have a question: when I use my OTS head with my passive volumepedal it will not clean up at all: muddy and useless (even when using guitars volumeknob). But with the Clator in the loop there´s a a new kid in town: it really cleans up very well, and I can have sounds from tiny crunch to real overdrive with only volumepedal.
Hi friends. Here´s a bunch of clips from our last show. Here´s the OTS in a livesituation. Worked like a charm; no tweaking during gig, Soundcheck and that´s all! Only pedals used: Hermida reverb and Wampler analog echo, that´s all; and no C-lator or Kleinulator. 50 watt head, no mods, Fender cab with 2x12 vintage 30´s. Telecasters; -96 and -83 both with Peter Florance pickups. Hope you like it!
Show shot in front of a audience of 200 persons in a "small" orchestrahall; of course not the best acoustics for electric music. My friend who filmed did it with a Canon handcam, and that´s mic for the audio.
Thanks! You mentioned that the mods will not do with the V30´s? I am SO disappointed with the G12-65 that I got for my Framus 1x12 cab. I have a G12-100 (1980´s) waiting for my Two Rock design cab, according to Celestion that should be in between the V30 and 65, but for me the 65 didn´t work at all. I had, and gigged it, for about 15 hours, but it always felt like it was so much "in the box", the v30´s feels much more punchy and in-your-face (like the Vibro king, that´s been my main amp for the last 10 years.)
BUT I AM really pleased with the OTS. Last gig was great, and I would like to share a another clip that shows great cleans; and a lot of dynamics during the song. A great amp, really..... No stompboxes here btw.
C- Lator is better as it is valve (tube) based and will add a bit of compression / harmonic interest when driven.
In my view you need to have the G12-65H for 'the' Robben sound...there again which Robben sound are you looking for?
I really like all of his sounds, but my "first-Robben" was "Handful of Blues". But the sound in my mind with the OTS are especially the "New Morning" live stuff. Seems a lot brighter than earlier sounds of him.
Here´s a example of how my rig sounds with the Vintage30´s right now, without C-lator. Only pedals are Hermida Reverb and Wapler echo. MIND this is recorded in a small concerthall, not so good for drums etc as you know!
Thanks for your suggestions! These mods, mentioned: what will they do with the sound? How will my amp be different? Why are they no good without a dumbleator?
Do you prefer Kleinulator or C-laotor, or is either ok?
PS. I have a 2x12 cab with Vintage Celestions for my OTS. Thanks.
Thanks for your help! 15.00 o´clock, I mean ca 7-8.
The PAB does in deed cut bass and boost mids. I don´t find some much use of that feature? How do you use it?
But with the midboost (deep switch) on, the PAB makes the sound fatter, and acts more like a a second mode with a little bit more push in it.
That´s the setting I was prefering. Clean with PAB, OD and OD with PAB.
I have tried your preampgain setting, high like 7-8 but I find it quite hard to balance the drive then, even with full ratio. I have the unmodded original OTS, but I really like the sound of it so I don´t think HRM is for me (even though I guess that amp is more "Robben"?)
Hi friends. I have a OTS 50 watt standard; I really like it but I can´t seem to find the sweet-spots in the tweaking.
My needs are: the clean channel to be a crunchy and to clean up with the volume knob on my guitar. Best result here, for me, is first volume up to 15 o clock, PAB and deep on. With this setting and my tele I got quite a vintage-ish, dirty sound that cleans either when I switch PAB off or back off with guitarknob. The problem is to dial in balance with the lead channel. I got ratio at max but I still think that the clean channel cut the mix so much better than the lead.
Any suggestions?
My intention is to use my ernieball volume pedal, to control gain instead of using PAB on and off (and leave it ON all the time) just because I think PAB sounds better and in some how a volume pedal (Mr. Ernie) reacts better (different) than the volume control of my guitar.
Hi there, I have a 50w OTS standard with two cabs: a 2x12 VibroKing cab with Vintage 30´s for big gigs and one 1x12" with Celestion G12-65 for smaller. My other rig is a pedalboard with Lovepedal Les Lius, Timmy, BJ Honey Bee and a Fender Vibro King. With my Ceriatone OTS I am seeking more of the "Robben" tone and I find that my pedals doesn´t add so much - if I for instance need a push or boost in the lead channel, I think pedals make a little difference. Well, maybe it´s my settings, I don´t know.
I try to find settings on the OTS so that I can use clean and dirty channels and the PAB for more cutting-leads. Right now I believe my magic is in the very first volume knob - I have it to 7 to make the clean channel crunch a bit, and I think it sounds quite good cause the first volume/gain really affects the whole amp. Live with the OTS, my only setup on the floor is footswitch, tuner and wah. I have the Hermida Reverb in the loop - that´s it!
But how about you? How do you use it, do you use pedals with your amp, and how?
