Website, Store / General / Re: why I hate "gurus"...

Totally agree with most of the sentiments above, and think it's really unfair to blame a layout which uses, in most cases totally standard components, for the amp not sounding great.
The trouble with the Internet in general is that idiots and gurus are allowed on there! 'I always thought my les paul sounded great until I discovered I didn't have bumblee bee caps' statements all over the place. The problem is 99% of people think Nik's amps are great, but the 1% are the ones that can do the damage.
It would be a real shame to lose access to the layouts, I use them a lot, just to try and understand the differences between different circuits, it's probably the best resource on the web for this.

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: pre-built or builder?
|

It's a tricky one, the quality of work of the pre-built Ceriatones is much better than most people could do themselves (me included) and although I really enjoy amp building it is time consuming and I should really practice guitar more Nick's still going to do the package 1 kits, and I know, based on the amount of support he's given me in the past it must be very time consuming for him even if only 1 in 10 people that buy kits ask for help, so I totally support his decision to concentrate on development, and who knows he might re-introduce kits at a later date.

Bath uk.
I have an underused OTS Head. There is no dedicated cab I am re-evaluating my amps, and will give you a shout if I decide to lose the OTS50. It's about 3 hours drive from you. The amp is worth more than the matamp I think, and I am not sure what that model is like, but it's academic if I keep the OTS I think the Matamp's are about 1300 quid new

I may be interested soon, but unfortunately at present in the UK, only the Dumble style ones hold their value to the £800 region, even then I got one for £650 The Marshall 50W amps go around £500-£550 usually
If it's still around when you are interested, drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do on price, it won't be £500 though

They are there to protect the rectifier from surges. Delicate things rectifiers, definitely use them, these parts have zero effect on what the amp sounds like they are just there to keep it working.

Custom amp building, Prototypes and other amps / Discussion / Re: JTM-18

Hello StringSkunk, Based on JohnA's project I asked Nik to build me a JTM with 6V6's too, Nik named it the JTM20. Killer amp just like my other Ceriatones. I've playing the JTM20 with a Xotic BB+ preamp and Tonebone Plexitube and honestly, the sound is insane. Been playing for 30+ years and hands down this amp and my Creme Brulee are the best amps I've ever had. All the best, Bert
I bet Nik made a neater job than I did would love to see some pics

I gotta say....I'm impressed. It is not cat biased AND it does not use EL84's, that is kind of a breath of fresh air IMO. A real nice looking amp, all the way around. It looks like a Hammond choke.... Who made the PT and OT...? Thank You
Sorry for the late reply, only just seen the question. Yes it's a hammond 159Q choke, the PT & OT are 'valvepower' ones made in the UK, cheapest iron available, and sounds great!

British Style / JTM 45, 50 / bass control not working
|

The bass control on my JTM is not working, ie. it sounds exactly the same at 0 and at 10?? I've checked and double-checked everyting, any ideas?
It sounds as though the bass is 'stuck' on full
