My Appologies - we have moved over 500 domains since sunday last (5am)  and I am a bit cranky from all that.

What happened was that the site had a default of the wrong home page so the site failed to load.

Secondly the video has had to be uploaded again (Im doing that now so it might take an hour or so from this post).

But it's coming back on in all it's glory.

Im glad you boys like that site... I really enjoyed building the amp and making the video.

It will be back presently...   all the way from Milton Keynes (where it used to be) to Manchester UK (where it is now).

The internet is an awesome thing - especially if you think that an email can move at 3000 miles per second!

Hi Tim,

what I really meant was that if you look at the layout on the ceriatone website for the HRM, it can be interpreted two ways, looking at the back, or looking at the front of the jacks. I remember it was a bit weird at the time. If you watch further I think I said, ok thats right.. it  was just confusing to see the tip appearing to go to ground.

I removed both inputs from the chassis and checked them against the diagram where I could easily see and fix them.

I have copied what I did in a more viewable pic.

Whether anyone chooses to fit this mod or not makes little difference. What does matter is that this guy has done a really GREAT online effort to help develop the ots further. Its a matter for the individual whether they use it or not. I for one, not being hyper techie would at least consider this mod now - I looked at this before and decided it was too scary then.

But this is a great thread and you deserve credit for it.

EVERYONE has their own opinion of sound and tone, and everyone is right - if they like what they get from a modded amp then clearly its right for them.

How can someone else say its not?

I ended up setting my OD trim to 11 am

I tried a Jan 5751 in V3 and later replaced it with a 12ax7-c. There was in my view a substantial difference in tone.

Its difficult to tell from the picture and I know its obvious but look where I circled - the cap is not touching the bare resiistor leg is it?

This is not an HRM right? I know the amp is a bit different than the HRM, but I did a video including the problems I had. It might not actually tell you what your problem is, but you might get some pointers from the stuff I had videod at the time.

My problems revolved around basically the extra little boards (not the main boards). Nik talked about those extra boards being very picky about how much solder to use - too much and they form balls of solder which he said could distort the boards if overtightened and had caused trouble before. Funny thing was, that although my problem appeared to relate to one channel, it was actually there on everything - and when the output 'went off' it became VERY hard to find.

I checked all the connections on all those boards - in my case it did not make a difference, but Nik was very specific about that. All the same, I would check for too much solder, because he was so specific about that problem and the aggrevation it had caused before. Also slack off the non main boards from being too tight and see if the thing works.

Remember its not always wired wrong. In my build I did not have a single wire in the wrong place...

Nik also referred to bad dressing of cables - check that too.

My Power amp also worked perfectly - and I could even drive it with a pedal....  perfect - but the preamp was not.

Don't talk to me about relays 

Yes those pesky input connectors are a bit fiddly - I would double check them.

yes you are right - I used your basic pics for my build but soon learned that yours was different 

Actually I thought yours was some earlier model or something (I could not tell actually exactly which model it was) so I was perplexed at first, but your images did give a little bit of info here and there - so they were actually quite useful to me - thank you.

Anyway, as I developed the build, I did run in to a couple of silly things as I built the amp - and that is not difficult given the actual documentation available (at least for me) so I documented everything I could. I also had a couple of problems in getting the amp to work correctly, but these, although they were simple to fix, they were not actually that easy to find. Some guys on here helped with various suggestions as indeed Nik himself did, Nik found the relay wrong round syndrome, but I found the other.

Anyhow, I am glad that you guys think my efforts were ok. I did enjoy doing this and may make another differing amp in this way in the not too distant future - it was FUN

I'm sure it depends much on the guitar as much as the amp.

I have recently completed a Overtone HRM and (with a strat) can get some great clean and not so clean stuff out of it. But I'm also sure that the other guys on here are right also - think about it - crap speakers - crap sound - that's a very old fact which many plug and play guitarists forget about..  they're just speakers... right?

I have found the Overtone HRM to be a very flexible amp, but it does not like my pedals too much. So I don't use them.

Then things get good!
