Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS with reverb from SSS??

"In all actuality you could buy a Ceriatone SSS and send it to John Myrnck and he could take out the Filter Section, add Overdrive, and use the Post OD Reverb circuit....."
For anyone interested: reverb (you pick the version) can be installed on any of these amps. As a custom builder/manufacturer I build it into amps on request and have done some Ceriatone builds with it as well. The design engineer in me welcomes challenges so I tell my customers "If you can think it, I can build it!" The Ceriatone platform offers a very economical way to get the amp of your dreams with no comprimise. You can go from stock to tricked out by someone like me and have a pro quality peice of gear. Especially since the chassis are steel now, just got my first powder coated one. Mighty pretty!

And don't forget, if you must have a cathode follower on the PI (or other features) it can easily be added if I (or another authorized builder) build it for you! We can decide the wattage, choose transformers, tubes and other features to your taste. This SSS platform will become one of Nik's hottest items I think once folks realize it can become just about any SSS model. I hope to be one of the first to demonstrate this! My first version will be a 200 watt using vintage Fender iron and some other cool tidbits, stay tuned! Jon Mill Creek Audio

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Bluesmaster 50 Speaker Update..Updated Again!! :)

Sorry again, but you are only overdriving the preamp turning up the first volume unless you crank the master too (or output of C-lator if you use one). In amps that sound good with JJ's they have a good reputation (I've used them in dozens of amps), my 100W HRM had a full set for 2 and 1/2 years of constant gigging and sessions and they still test and sound great, only found it out after replacing with Winged "C" and other pre tubes... thought I would hear more output, better tone. Now the JJ's are a great spare set.
"I cranked up the clean channel to around 8 out of 10 to drive the power section and was greeted with a beautiful power tube saturation overdrive sound and the Webers compressed and sang beautifully! All this from the supposedly "crappy" JJ's!"

Sorry, you are not driving the power amp section hard if you are turning down with a C-lator, it becomes a new master. Since the tones and crunch are developed in the pre-amp, turning down with a C-lator (or your amp's master) allows you have your sound at any lower volume. Power amp only gets driven hard if you play LOUD or use an attenuator between amp and speaker..... +1 on using the c-lator as a global master. You can drive the power section hard and control the volume fairly well with little sacrifice in tone. That's what I do when I practice at home and in small venues.
FWIW Nik had plans for 5 watters no too long ago, and a 10-15 watter would seem like a next logical step

"As for the filters, not so sure if it's easy, Jon(?)?"
Yup, all the info is pretty much known, couple of different flavors but all able to be done fairly easily.....

You can easily put a C-lator into a smaller metal box and put it into the bottom of your head cab. Even inside the chassis if you are crafty.......

I have replaced power transformers in more than a few Twins over the years for folks who tried running EL34s in them. From what I've seen it's a crap shoot, sometimes you can be OK and sometimes they just get too warm and fry themselves. And as Greg already mentioned, he is not using Mercury stuff. He also plays very loud so since I built his amp I advise against it. But of course you can try it if you like! I'm building a #183 for someone now using those same new tubes, using a TXFR rated for that current. I'm expecting good sounds!!

Sorry, your power transformer is made for 6L6 not EL34 and will not handle the additional current needed for those filaments...... Is anyone using EL34's in there Bluesmaster or HRM? If so what mA are you setting the bias for? I'm using Winged C (SED) 6CA7's.

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Question to all the modders out there

I beg to differ, there may be some differences between output transformers in various brands of amps (I put in customers choice when I build) but the rest of the parts are the same or better than what you would get in any high priced amp. The Ceriatone is a clone of ONE model of Dumble, they are all differently made for individual players. I had a prominent player here that owns a Dumble he had made for him in the early 80's. When he heard and played my Ceriatone he ended up selling his Dumble and ordering a 100W HRM from me. Freed up $40K of capital for other uses. A good builder can tailor the amp to your liking and make you very happy! Unless you really know amps and components and a fair amount of electronics that's just a silly statement. These amps can hold their own against any of similar type.

Have you tried setting the gain knob on the back of the chassis at 10 O'clock or less? Adjusted the HRM trimpots inside? Set the PI trimmer?

Once had a filter cap that would cause that, would work fine but crap out sometimes when the the current demand was high (big low notes). Tricky to find....
