1  Website, Store / Support / Early distortion in spitfire on: March 16, 2013, 06:13:12 AM
Even at the lowest volume setting I'm getting some nasty distortion.  It might be cool for a song or two, but there is zero clean.
-I tried running just one side of the V1 and made sure all voltages were correct with no luck.
-Switched OT's with no luck because the one I had originally put in was a questionable salvage.
-Changed output tubes but same result.
-Tried different power resistors (2K2, 22K) per different schematics and this layout.

All the voltages look great, could it be the PI?  I reflowed every joint, switched out different 12AX7's, quadruple checked everything, and I'm still getting the same result.

Maybe this.... are spitfires supposed to be dirty from the start?  are there no cleans? This is my first PP amp so I'm thinking I fudged something somewhere.

Any help or guesses would be appreciated.  Thanks guys
2  Muchless / Spitfire / OT for spitfire on: February 01, 2013, 12:02:53 AM
I'm building a spitfire clone, and I'm trying to get an OT for it.  I've tried contacting tds several times with no luck, and I'm either going to order a vox ac15 OT, or use a Crate V33 Mercury Magnetics OT that I pulled off a fried amp a few years back.  Is it possible to use an OT that was used for 4 EL84's, on an amp that uses 2 EL84's?  Will this mess up impedance?  It would save me some money to finally use this thing for something.
