901  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Just got my Overtone - couple questions on: April 01, 2008, 06:01:37 AM
Now time for a newbie question from me....

What´s the 1-N-2 gnd switch at the back of the amp? What does it do?

I´m loving this amp by the way. I think I never enjoyed a new amp so much as this one. Smiley

1-N-2 is suppose to be a ground switch, which does nothing (at least with mine), it's not even wired. Nowdays we don't need the ground switch anymore but in the past it was not so.

I was thinking about wiring this switch for switchable primary PT voltage 120V - 220V, just in case I become famous and start getting gigs in the States  Grin
.... or even to choose between 220V - 240V.  Huh?

BTW
... did you notify Nik about your problem?

He should have a few ideas about this.
903  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Noise on: April 01, 2008, 05:50:02 AM
Did you measured all the plate voltages?
If you did what are the values?

Mine looks like this:
6L6      452V
V1a      195V
V1b      204V
V2a      210V
V2b      213V
PIa      318V
PIb      301V

Thanks...

...my friend is a carpenter and he was doing all the hard work, I was just fetching and holding things.

... well not like a cap. It acts like a resistor, but a resistor with the inductance and that is what makes ripple go away.

Well I not sure but real wood can be problematic sometimes...

Wood has a certain resonance and that is not always a good thing.
It's safer to go with plywood.

Regarding the looks, what is wrong with this  Wink

I think that's his Tokai ES-100.
Man, that sounds like a wonderful guitar.

Marin, did you ever compared your Tokai to real 335? Is there any difference at all?

As far as I know Nik gets his trannies here....

I hope that helps.

I'll try to answer...

...power supply output is essentially DC with some AC, "hum," riding "on top of it.", also known as ripple.
Choke acts a s a filter and as such it will give you less ripple.

This is not such a big factor with a low watt amp like Champ but the cost of a choke is not big, so why not.

Does that answer you question?
911  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Re: how "close" are the fender-like amps on the originals? on: March 25, 2008, 07:51:26 AM
I agree... and if you use similar cabs with similar speakers, you will get close enough.

Can't expect 5E3 to sound similar to the original through 4x12" celestion cab

912  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: The Overtone Special... Worth the cash? on: March 25, 2008, 07:46:32 AM
If I would have to decide on one amp, it would be Overtone hands down.
This amp is the most versatile amp compared to others you mentioned.

It can do Fender BF clean and not to mention the famous creamy OD tone ... and all in between  tones as well  Wink

With all the switches and pots, OD and PAB selection you will find all the tone you need.

1265 is dark. The emi rw&b speaker sounds much better IMO.

Are you sure about this?
I always thought RW&B is darker sounding speaker compared to 1265.

 Huh?
914  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Will the Overtone use 5881 power tube? on: March 23, 2008, 08:21:39 PM
yes, you can use the tungsol 5881 reissues or sovtec 5881 wxt with no issues.

...can you elaborate a little bit on this. Like I said I'm not an expert and I want to learn as much as possible... and statement like that doesn't say much.
Can those tubes handle bigger plate voltages or what?

 Huh?
915  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone biasing on: March 23, 2008, 08:04:19 PM
can you get to the pot from outside the chassis or do you have to take the chassis out of the head cab to adjust?

...you have to take it out
