91  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Classic Tone Power Transformer Taps (Which models could we use?) on: July 11, 2012, 12:07:13 AM
For a 50W OTS with 6l6's I would use the 40-18029
has 355-0-355, 50v bias, 6.3 heater tap and 5v as well
 Wink

Todd

Yea I also read some guys use this but I always wondered; the OTS have a 3in x 3+ mounting holes for PT and this Tranny you suggested have a 2 3/4 X 2 7/16 mounting.

Also I dont see the BIAS tap on the spec sheet?

Thanks for your input.  Smiley

Nick,

The JTM 45 tranny won't work with the OTS unless you add a separate tranny for bias. The JTM 45 gets its  bias voltage via a large capacitor and a resistor network. Also, I believe the relays for the OD and PAB need the 6v tap the stock tranny has to work properly, although I guess you could use the 5v tap that would be used for the tube rectifier's filament in the JTM. I know the Mercury makes a power tranny specifically for the OTS, and Nik is a dealer. I believe you can order through him and the they ship from the US I believe.
I haven't seen anyone else offer a tranny with the proper taps, outside of a custom job.

Gregg

Thanks Gregg! That explains a lot. Yea I actually asked for a quote from Nik for MM's and a combination of his Trannies. I thought Mercury Magnetics isn't the way to go as it was still expensive. Classic Tone stuff seem to be getting a lot of good reviews and have you seen their comparison demo. They're supposed to be built well and just as good as MM.

Now I guess its that fun time again of browsing for options. I might settle on Nik's PT.

Hi, I just got the Classic TOne 40-18025 OT for my 50W OTS.

Now I don't know what Power Tranny to use. I've done my research and some ppl seem to have used the Marshall style 40-18033

But

They seem to not have the 50-60ish V tap needed for the bias. Am I missing something? WHat do they do and they were able to use these trannies? I've checked all the diagrams of the CLassic Tone trannies but none seem to have the 50v tap.

I would appreciate any ideas about this. I just want to hit my first chord on my OTS!

Thanks
Nick

Hahah thanks you made me feel less nervous.  Cool

Hahah well why shouldn't your amp work perfectly. Yes I am a bit nervous for the first power up. Did you check voltages before putting tubes? Or use something like a variac or light bulb device?

Yeah I will probably get the MM from Nik. I have been exchanging emails with him and he's always quick to reply. One of the best things about Ceriatone..

The chassis now comes like that - Metal for more strength and powdercoated cream

One quick question, does it matter which 3.15 lead from the power tranny goes to which terminal of the pilot ligh and side of heaters? I mean is it interchangable? Just to be perfectly sure lol.
97  Ceriatone / Overtone / Electrolytic Caps - Is it bad to dehumidify amps? on: May 19, 2012, 09:54:29 PM
I usually put a dehumidifier inside the cab of my amps. Is this bad for any components? WOuld the caps dry out? Also while building my ceriatone OTS, I put a dehumidifier in the chassis and cover it up. I dehumidify because it is damp here and that issue has a lot of adverse effects on some components and also cosmetically. The pots would even get molds sometimes and metal become brittle with humidity.

Thanks,
Nico

Oh are those the holes between the socket holes? I see. I'm well halfway on the build but I gotta get the trannies lol. I have more pics to post.

Grinding the paint out of ground contacts. Pretty much self explanatory.

Did the front controls. After this and testing, I'm much more confident with my first build.

Buss bar was a bit tricky but very satisfying to finish.

yeah Nik said it souldnt be on the sockets but I cant find it. I organized and checked parts right after opening the box. I will let Nik know.

Thanks for the reply sir Erwin.

Yes they are indeed the relays. Those two smallest boards.. on upper right hand of this pic here. Beside the octal sockets.

So I got this kit through abraxascabs. Im still thinking whether to get the Mercury Magnetics trannies or not. Right now I'm procuring all needed tools and supplies while I do final planning/ review for the build. This is my first kit build ever except a little amp I did way back in HS. So I might be needing (a lot) help here and there. But I certainly will document pretty much every step of the way to be able to be sure and possibly help others and most importantly have the most fun out of it.

Some photos of sorting the parts. Most will be organized on those plastic containers so I can have an organized work flow and more virtual memory to use on other things while building.;

You can see the nice new metal faceplate here..

I got 200uF yay as all the others now. Nice colors huh?

103  Ceriatone / Overtone / Missing components on OD and PAB satellite boards on: May 10, 2012, 06:52:41 AM
Just got my OTS 50 kit. I was emailing Nik too but I found this problem just moments ago and emailed him.

The small boards doesn't contain anything on their sockets. The "coil"(as labeled on layout) rectangular box thing aren't really listed on the parts list so apparently they should come installed on the little boards.

> What are these?
> Why dont I have it on my kit
> What can I do at this point

Lol.. Thanks for any thought guys!

Hmm my OTS kit just came in. I'll let you guys know of how it comes out of the box.

105  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Powder Coating the Chassis Ideas on: April 30, 2012, 02:39:24 PM
Wow dude thanks for that. I dont know if I'm excited or shocked though.
