SSS is being worked on! For the time being, we're doing the earlier 6L6GC ones. Yeah yeah you guys say you want 150W, then you try to lullaby gramma to sleep with the amp I'll make it 50 and 100W first. Wow, reverb! I thought I'd never see it in my amps! But of course, best part is the price. I will try to make a production RUN of 10 for members of the forum at introductory prices Thanks nik

Guys
There seems to be confusion here:
Pack 3, 4 (wired chassis) are still available
Clator is available as complete.
it's KITS that are not, ie the one you need to solder to get it to work.
Pack 1 + assembly is also available as well (this one is where we wire the whole thing, except the tranny section, so it'd be cheap to ship).
Oh well, new website will be on soon with good descriptions.
Well, temporary one while we commission someone to make it with CMS, cart, and what not (abt time!)
Thanks!

Hi Nik, what will be included in the bare bones kit? Price?
Hi it'd be everything available except the resistors, signal caps, wire and screws But it wont be by default. Default would just be chassis, plates and bare board perhaps. You can add pots jacks sockets, can caps and the likes. This way, as I have said, more option to source your own esoteric parts! Price wise, it'd be the same pretty much. Maybe more, it's costly to maintain private jets LOL! Thanks! Nik

Website, Store / General / Fake Cliff jacks
|
on: June 05, 2011, 06:40:32 PM

Hi, I am now made aware of some discussions of fake Cliff jacks. Just to let guys know that we DO NOT use Fakes! We get Cliff jacks from Cliff in the UK. About 2 years ago, we were PROPOSED by Cliff UK to get China made Cliffs, and we bought 1000 pcs to try. We did, and after abt 50 pcs, we stopped, as these were not good. So I am still left with 950 or so pcs of Cliff China jacks, unused. There are many companies which used fake Cliff jacks, or China made Cliff jacks. Even very well known companies, and only realizing later, from warranty claims, that these jacks are not good. What I have heard, Cliff USA does not supply the same jacks as Cliff UK? Correct me if I am wrong. The china made Cliff is shaped quite differently than the real UK ones. The body is more squarish. The insertion is also very hard at times to go in. It is quite a mystery, and a question Cliff UK didnt answer me - why the different shape and spec between UK made and Chinese made ones? We have also tried Belton jacks. Although Belton makes good tube sockets, I feel their jacks is not up to snuff either. Still have a few hundred of these, somewhere in the black hole of my storage room (the reject part / biohazard area ) So there you go, some (useless?) info for Sunday. Switchcraft open frame? We're too lazy here to deal with those. The Cliffs are so easy to solder to and place components on (like the 1M resistor, for eg). Thanks! Nik

Guys Thanks for the replies and suggestions. As for the kits, indeed so. I think, in order for me to really be able to release more amps, and make things quicker, and cheaper, it'd be best. The bare bones kits should still enable builders to get stuff. As for the other parts, like caps, resistors, and small components, not very sure abt that, yet. As we have more and more models, it does get a bit unwieldy. Kits are quite lucrative, money wise. So, it's not that we're losing money on it, so it was a tough decision. If I sell it, then I feel I do need to support it, so supporting it was not a burden, it was an obligation. Since I feel that the obligation has become a bit too much, in light of what I intend to do in the future with Ceriatone, then this has got to be done. But, I think it'd be fine. People wanna change the components, or want unassembled boards, anyways, usually. So with the bare bones kits, it'd be a win win. Shopping or hunting for the parts, should be another fun adventure. You can really fine tune the parts to exactly what you want. And you guys can just go to the gurus or to TAG. Pay some homage, buy some resistors from em! I heard the gold resistors are nice, and the rhinestone caps are sweet! We'll see how it goes. Thanks Nik

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: how did you find the OD to study?

No, I went dumpster diving at HAD's place... #124 was indeed what started it. Thanks Gil, and the guys involved at the time. S&M was not Brown note's. it was my preference, after doing #124 exactly. It was very hard if you're used to fenders and marshalls. Thats why the S&M is a bit brighter, and with a more biting OD. #183, FM50, FM100 - a bird emailed the info. Check my log at the ampgarage place. No login since 2008? 2009? My understanding of #183 is it was degooped TAG's amp. I do not follow any other people's layouts, it was eyeballing the pics. I did see a layout floating around at the time, with some wrong values (if the original pics were enhanced properly). But then again, even my 183 is slightly tweaked as is. FM came in schematic format. FM Eagle mod is a tweak, but sold currently by default, unless original is requested. HRM MK2 - havent seen emerald pro yet, not that familiar with TR amps. Not sure exactly. Some Dumble owners DO email me pics of their amps insides, so could have been one of those. Or could have been schematic floating around, that someone found 3 years earlier than me, with a tear, and the not so sounding good version! LOL! Oh wait, thats for the Jose mod, oops! But yeah sure, credit is where credit is due, we all can be ethical here: So thanks, to brother cloners of Alexander Dumble circuits, over at ampgarage.com. If I find something new, I'd sure to post it on my layouts on the website! Feels like I am missing someone to thank here... hmmm... Oh, thanks, HAD! You're a genius!

Thanks guys, that made my day!
Yeah, I need to think of something new for the gift, other than t-shirts.
Perhaps a cap, that'd be easier, than having to carry 5 sizes.
Anyways, enjoy the amps!
Thanks!

American Style / BF Champ, Vibro Champ / Re: Hi! I've got a number of questions on Ceriatone's Champs..

Hi We did offer tweed, blackface champ, and also vibrochamp before. It was taking much space on the scroll down menu on my website, so i replaced em all with a single model that, as hh etc pointed out here, does all 3 rather well. Thats pretty much it. Not sure abt going back to individual amps - when we had all 3, people were requesting to put all 3 into 1. So there you go! Thanks! Nik

LOL! There's a tear on it, but fortunately, it's only the part where it says Piss Off. Not sure whether the tear affects anything, I'll Piss Off just to be sure the tone is maintained... No prize in guessing what this is about. Just general rant..

Hi, Sure thing, we can try to have the same range as the regular OTS. Perhaps, we release just 1 first, ie the regular OTS preamp, with 15W power. These would still take abt same time to make (12-15hrs), so not sure abt releasing the whole gamut at the same time. Perhaps would be best if we do a batch of 20 amps in a go? As for price point, I see the mass produced, PCB, amps have inched up a bit to 575-600. I am trying to keep it within this range, plus a bit more for shipment. All hand wired, all made with same love as the other amps, people! On a side note - I made some renovation to my house, and saw these beautiful laminated boards. They hold up quite well to abuse and heat. Hmm...maybe flat-pack type of cabinet? Thanks! nik

I am drawing up 15W OTS type amp now (EL84s) it wont have the 3 voicing switch in front though (get the regular OTS for those! ) But it'd have channel switching etc. yeah, metal cage would be the way. I am excited. Well, we'll see. I like drawing it out, it's really relaxing. Thanks! nik

Website, Store / General / Re: Mains voltage - 245v down to 220V - mains regulator for House

Hi
This is why we still use 240V for all the amps for EU. The variance just makes it a bit risky to set for 220 or 230V even.
On the other hand, that device mentioned, I am indeed thinking to release something like that.
But, better still, it;d be adjustable. So if you see today your wall is 230V, you can adjust accordingly (the device will have reading of your wall input).
It will not be automatic, as that entails circuitry that'd probably like switching power supply (problems).
The device is totally passive, nothing fancy. Ie, it's a big transformer with multiple taps to adjust to whatever the wall is, so that the transformer receives what it wants to see ideally.
Perhaps, same transformer can be wound there, and you dont have to spend EU300 for it?
and, with this thing, you can carry it anywhere (albeit heavy), so that your amp performs optimally at the gigs too.
My 240V,
Thanks!
Nik
