What do you want to know?
782  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Challenge to owners on: June 09, 2008, 08:57:51 AM
Hi John, are you the same johne that I've seen on the Matt Schofield forum?

3rd: I believe that I am getting that tone from my OTS with the following settings: bright off, deep off, jazz, Treble at 8, Mid and Bass at 5, OD at 5, ratio 5, Master at 2.5, Presence at 8, Volume 5. Overdrive on, PAB off. Guitar: Strat w/Lindy Fralin Hot Vintage pickups , and a very fat warmoth neck, Brazilian Rosewood board.

A man after my own heart. VH Fralins and a fat Warmoth neck. I've got a Superwide with a fat back, ebony board and SS frets. Love it but no one else likes it, they've got small hands I guess.

783  Ceriatone / Overtone / Some assistance please on: June 06, 2008, 06:45:58 PM
I'm finding my presence pot makes very little difference to the tone at all. I'm talking it through with Nik to try and find out why but I'm not getting anwhere at the moment. I wonder if those of you with the non-JZ-modded layout would conduct a little experiment for me.

On the clean channel with all switches down, EQ all set to 5 (12 o'clock) pre amp volume on 5 master loud enough to hear it well (2 ish?). Set the presence to 0 and strum a chord gently . Turn the presence to 10 and strum again. Do this a few times to get a feel for the tone change.

Then set presence to 10 and turn the treble down to get approximately the tone you get with the presence on 0. I'm just trying to gauge the range of your presence control. I know the presence alters more than just the treble or at least it should, but on mine it doesn't do much at all.

I'll let on what i turned my treble down to after a few of you have tried and reported back.

Many, many thanks

So the prices (£155) shown are list I guess. I'll give him a ring, thinking of a Blue for my 5watt SE which needs to go into a combo. Did you get the EVM-12L from him aswell? (see my question in another thread)

How do you rate the gold alongside th EVM-12l

Thanks to Gbergl and fullerplast I tried an EVM-12L.  Grin

I'm struggling to find one in the UK care to enlighten me?

Thanks

I don't think mine is very loud either, especially with deep off and jazz, its positively quiet. Makes a change from all the Fender amps I've had hat were way too loud, especially my HotRod DL.

I wonder if you could point me at a source for a Gold cheap, in the UK. Thanks

Well I've taken it out of the box and everything looks as it should do. I tested the 4 Ohm tap on the OT since thats where the neg feedback loop originates from and I am getting output there.

Will get it on the bench now and see if a meter can find anything, otherwise its off to my amp tech for some serious debugging.

The two trimmers on the main board get left alone? thanx

The right hand trimmer on the main board is the one that controls the OD channel level and is the one you'll experiment with most. The PI trimmer (left hand end of main board) is set and forget The trimmer on the satellite board that contains the FET, controls the level for that input. Most owners don't use the FET input much but you might want to just set it to a sensible level and leave it, I have mine at 9 o'clock.

Also I noticed I was sent two black an one red bias ports. The drawing shows it in reverse.

That won't matter, just use the  red one in the centre. They are just measuring points.

Is the star ground one of the PT bolts or seperate. Pic looks seperate.

Separate bolt with 3 or 4 solder tags. Don't tighten it up until all your joints are made. It works as a big heat sink if you do and a low power iron will struggle.

HTH

Well I figured out tonight that the presence control is doing absolutely nothing on my amp! Need to get it on the bench at the weekend and get to the bottom of this problem.

I have read every post on this forum especially the mods that Jack Zucker, ic-racer, mondoslug and others have been recommending and I especially recall, I think it was JZ saying that these tame the sharp ice-pick treble on the OD channel. Well I've not been experiencing  that much treble and where others have given details of their settings, Treble has been around 3-4 where I've had mine 7-8 and I still thought it lacked a bit of sparkle especially the high mids. I thought it was my speaker cabs, then I swapped pre-amp valves and started fiddling and found the non-operational presence control. I guess thats why I'm finding it lacking that bit of sparkle.

We'll see what it does for the tone when I nail the problem!! I just hope its something obvious like a wrong value component(which means theres another one wrong somewhere else aswell !!) or a missed connection.

Mike, if you could let me know the price for a Custom Rackmount unit as I would be interested for sure.

Ditto for the rack jobby.

Thanks

Thanks for a great post and for sharing the dimensions. That's exactly what I am looking to get into when I am done. FYI, the grille cloth looks a bit loose, maybe hit it with a hairdryer again to shrink it back up? Awesome combo. Really nice.

I've had good success using the hot air gun to tighten grille cloth, but you sould dampen it first with a fine mist spray (don't overdo it!!!) or a damp cloth (safer, but you might need to do it twice).

I'd be really interested to know what your settings were, what guitar/pups etc. Any FX?

Thanks
794  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: My OT build on: May 19, 2008, 09:11:27 PM
I've got my trimmer mounted externally on the rear panel and whenever I'm tweaking it I'm leaning over from in front of the amp, looking at it upside down!.

795  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: My OT build on: May 19, 2008, 05:25:14 PM
Oops I don't mean three o'clock I mean 9 o'clock, Its three o'clock when I lean over and look at it upside down!!!
