Hi guys, Thanks again for kind words. I will post my OTS mods soon in details. They are different than mods (layout) on ceriatone site. Overtone is a fantastic amp (A.H. Dumble is genius) because it is so easy to modify for players taste. Meanwhile check this site out especially if you are in UK and looking for tolex or custom cab for the head or speakers. Well that settles it, I'll be ordering the kit and either having a go myself or paying someone local to build it...am not patient enough to wait 3 months!!
AdrianJ where in the UK are you. I know a really good tech here in Nottingham who charges really reasonable rates.

Wow....indeed your OTS does look sweet in blue...makes me want to completely reconsider what look I want to go for when I get one...maybe something like yours, but I'm thinking dark red tolex... hmm...
I tried very hard to find dark red tolex in the UK , like Cornford colour, couldn't find any anywhere, plenty of that two tone Boogie style wine red but I wasn't keen on that. Ended up with something called leathercloth, looks nice but doesn't glue very well, apparently due to the fibre backing being nylon as opposed to cotton. Its also a bit too stretchy, the hard, less stretchy vinyl is best. If you do find any I'd appreciate knowing where to get it from. If you are buying mail order do get a sample first it surprising what some people think they can pass off as 'Tolex'!

Thanks gentlemen for listening. Yes it is Gibson L6-S with a scalloped neck. But on the samples I was using a strat with Dimarzio Heavy Blues noiseless pickups. Settings: Bright UP, vol-5 mid-5 bass-6 master-4 pres-5 Speakers are Celestion G12 Century. They are bright speakers. Here are more samples how Overtone does Plexi and Hi gain tones. Plexi - http://www.guitarampcab.com/cplexi.mp3 - fenfer neck pickup Hi gain - http://www.guitarampcab.com/chign.mp3 - gibson bridge humbucker Enjoy DId indeed. In fact from your bio I found your site and your OTS looks marvellous in blue. Have a look guys! http://www.drika.biz/amps.htmlYou mention that you modded your amp quite a bit car to share which mods you did? I'm keen to improve the clarity and sparkle of my clean tone and your clean clip nails it nicely whilst being able to get that lovely plexi crunch without any harshness.

AdrianJ you're spot on the money. I bought an ODS simply because I can't justify (to myself) or afford a Two Rock. When I first heard Matt Schofield I was blown away by his 'tone'. I like RF, but his tone, for solos anyway, is much more heavily overdriven, Matt Schofield has much less drive going on even when using pedal in front of the OD channel of his TR CRS.
My immediate problem and thanks bluesfendermanblues for those suggestions and insight into why the Ceriatone version is different from a Fender, is one of 'so many mods which will do what I want' but your list gives me somehwere to start. I added a 68pf across the MV and that got me some of the way there, but has made the OD too raspy. I need to do the 47pf across the input volume and I hope the change to the 470pf snubbers will then calm things down enough.
I haven't emailed Nik since I know he's busy but I was wondering if it would be possible to switch the MV cap out of circuit with the OD relay, that would be an easy way of negating that change when in OD. I'm afraid I'm struggling to understand the relay switching from the layout, so any help appreciated.
I have thought about taking it to a tech to do a custom voicing on it for me but having built it I really want to work this through on my own, hopefully learning something in the process.

and I got a small mod. (Moved OD trim pot to back panel) I'd really like to see how Nik accomplished this, any possibility of a pic?. I did this mod myself but would possibly have done it differently if I did it again. I wonder if he used shielded cable? I did but it might not have needed it.

Check your connections to the speakers. I had a similar situation where I thought the amp had gone bad on me and the speaker connection had vibrated loose, not off, but enough to make a bad connection. I always solder the wires to the tags now.

I also snagged a TC G Sharp to put in the loop.
Would really appreciate your opinions on the G-sharp in the loop with and without the kleinulator.

Surprised anyone would think the mods are dark. I typically keep my presence and treble at 10 O'Clock. Plenty of room to brighten things up. The 47pf mod only works in conjunction with a tube dumbleator and 8' cables. The idea is that the parasitic capacitance introduced in the cables reduces the brash high freq content and then the 47pf is passing through frequencies, some of which have been removed by the effect loop cables. If you use no loop and no dumbleator you are not even close to the robben and carlton mods. Not to say that it won't sound good but just keep those parameters in mind when you are modding. Frankly, adding brightness at the MV side is the wrong way to go IMO since turning the master up negates the effect of the bright cap.
I'm beginning to think there are different OTS amps out there!. Marins clips, especially the clean strat ones seem nice and chimey to me and I think he said he recorded at quite low volume levels. Without the MV cap I was having to run the presence at full and treble at 7-8 and still it lacked sparkle. It was better when cranked up, and I mean loud, MV 4 or above. Frankly I would like to dispense with the mv cap and have the tone stack do the right thing but I really don't know enough to start meddling, and anyway why is mine so different? I know I built it myself, but there really isn't that much that I could have done incorrectly and I have treble checked the wiring and my amp tech did the same prior to power up.

Thanks for that. I think I understand! the 4ohm tap has the lowest output so will have the least effect (other than no loop at all) 16 ohm will have the biggest effect. I might just try your mod, or just use the ground switch (non-operational) to switch the loop off and on.

You will need a decent soldering iron and a multimeter plus very basic tools. You should have some experience at soldering and be able to recognise a good joint from a bad one. You should print out the layout on A3 so you can mark on it each connection as it is made. Other than that its quite straight forward. Be aware the small DPDT switches are quite fragile don't over tighten them as they will break!. You will also need a variety of sizes of heat shrink tubing. If you know what you are doing with valve amps (and I didn't) then power up first without tubes in to check the various voltages. I took mine to an amp tech who did that for me, installed the tubes and biased them (though I could have done that bit). Worth paying just for the peace of mind.
Be aware of the possible problem with the OT primaries. My OT had its wire colours incorrect and others have found a problem that OT was out of phase with the PI and squeeled like mad. Just need to swap the two wires over then you'l be OK. I don't know if theres a way to check this before powering up with valves in. Also get in the habit of checking the capacitor voltages before delving inside after having had it powered up. I'm generally finding there is no residual voltage even after only a few minutes, but its always safer to check.
