Hey Kleinm,
Good to see you drop by and great to see the result of all those months of work since the early days on the Brownnote D'Lite forum. Interesting enough, I was just checking earlier today to see if Moss had his "mossleator"..lol.. ready to go, or not. I'd be very interested in one of yours, actually. Are you offering it as a complete build or a kit? I followed your threads on the build and would be pretty easy to put together. I've been meaning to build a dumleator but I hate sourcing the parts. Let us know what kind of pricing structure you have in mind. Personally, I'd be interested in a "bag-o-bits" an eyelet board(s), current schemo and layout, and drill my own chassis....like I said, I hate finding parts.
Cheers,
ChrisL AKA "candh" everywhere else

There are certainly easier circuits to have your first attempt at trouble shooting with but keep at it. Mcinku is right on. If it's not a simple case of failed solder joint or bad valve then you have to start isolating to pinpoint the problem. Do you have a DMM? If not, it's time you had one anyway. Be safe or she'll bite you. If you're not confident with this adventure save it for a qualified tech. I agree with the other guys that it sounds like a malfunction in the relay circuit so find a DMM and check back.

I happen to have a SR sitting right next to my Overtone. I did a lot of work to get the SR up to snuff and it is a great amp. The Zendrive in front of it makes for a nice "resonable facsimile". But, I choose the Overtone for all tones.

Oval cutout. 8 or 16 ohm..doesn't matter. The 8 is a little more flexible and I've found more desireable should you decide to swap and sell speakers.

I don't know.... I don't bother building combo's anymore. Convenience comes at a huge compromise in tone. Combos just sound way too open and lifeless to me compared to a semi closed back cab and head. My D'lite is in an oversized 1x12 combo and while it sounds great it fails in comparison to plugging the chassis into a 1x12 separate cab. Just MHO.
The Suhr Badger combo cab design does look like a reasonable alternative though.

I own several Blackface amps, a Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb and Super Reverb as well a Tweed or two. The Overtone has much more mids than any of them. It also has better bass. The overdrive still reminds me of an old Marshal more than a cranked Fender.
+1 Well said. My thoughts and experience exactly. My Fenders are gathering dust.

Wbfree,
Bummer, but it happens. My D'Lite is acting up right now and tracking down the elusive culprit is proving a challenge.
Your OT,,
There are a myriad of possibilites but.....hum is usually indicative of a grounding issue so..
pull your chassis, discharge the caps, inspect every solder joint and reflow any joints that look suspect, plug in some tubes you're not emotionally attached to for testing, do a rough bias, and get the measured voltages on all tubes and post them here. If your voltages are ballpark correct we can then move on to the next step. Again, if you're not up to it, get a tech to do it. But, really as long as you are safe and fully aware that the OT can "bite" it's a good chance to learn to do a little troubleshooting.

Now time for a newbie question from me.... What´s the 1-N-2 gnd switch at the back of the amp? What does it do? I´m loving this amp by the way. I think I never enjoyed a new amp so much as this one. Hey Rui, Good to see your diggin the amp. Yes, that ground switch functions much in the way the re-issue Fender Vibroverb's ground switch does. It does nothing other than add bling.

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone trimmers

Don't bother with them. The other one on the main board is the Phase Inverter bias which is best left alone unless you have a scope to adjust it. The other trimmer is for the FET input and we all know the usefullness of that.

Hey there,
The amp is a value at the price Nik is offering them at...especially if you have experience building an amp of this complexity. You will be able to shave a bit off the cost by finding a cab maker closer to home. That in itself sounds like a good project for a highschool fella such as yourself. Your Industrial Ed. teacher should be happy to contribute. As for a TW, 45, or DC30 clone..really, you can't go wrong but be aware they are all very different beasts. Set your sites on the one that really "speaks" to you and mow those lawns and pump that gas to get it.
All of these amps are roughly in the same output range so if you are thinking you want get saturation out of the output sections...you are going to be LOUD. The Overtone alone gets the majority of it's gain from the preamp and can sound equally great at low volumes to cranked up levels. There are no warranties but should you have any trouble there are plenty of knowledgeable people here and "there" to help you out.
