I finally got to crank it today.
1st this is a really seriously loud amp, even at 1/2 power it would be loud enough for most situations and I even think my 50watt HRM would struggle to keep up with it on 1/2 power. Full power would drown out most drummers I know, but then again most drummers I know are old farts like me.
I found the clean channel a bit bright with Strats but good for Les Pauls and with both guitars I prefer the tube rectifier tone over the solid state.
The Gain channel is an understatement, even with gain 8 o'clock there is plenty there.
My amp still needs burning in, it sounds very in your face. My HRM was like that when it was new, so it needs a few hours under it's belt for everything to settle down.
Also I think I have a dodgy solder joint I have to track down. I was getting a few distorted after tones on both the channels.
But apart from that I am pretty impressed with it, a good amp for rock

I noticed Mercury Magnetics does one for the Ceriatone DC30 which is the same OT as the Stray Cat

I think you would have to ask Nik about the OT trannie, I have no idea what the CT Ohmage is but I can tell you it needs about 362v. I had a look on the Hammond site and the only PT that was close to what voltages the Stray Cat uses is the one for a Vox AC15 290PX. But I suggest you ask Nik for advise before you purchase any trannies it could save a lot of messing around. Cheers Brian

I don't know if this is of any help to you, but the Hot Cat 30 uses TDS Trannies MAINS = TDS 1161 OUTPUT = TDS 1163 CHOKE = TDS 1162

I just finished mine and whoops I forgot to take photos on the way. I had one problem to chase down and it was a real simple stupid mistake. When I put the valves in I must of pushed V1 in crooked and bent a pin and it took me about an hour to find. But IT"S ALIVE. I have only tried it at bedroom levels so far but it's a real gain monster and the clean channel is really nice too, I will have to get a ABY box to channel switch the beast. Now for the burn in. Once again Nik and his team have come up with another awesome amp

where are you guys gettin your trannies from? I didnt get them from nik like i should have and am having a real hard time finding a suitable (i.e. cheap) alternative.
I got mine from Nik. The power trannie should be easy to find as it uses the same as the Marshall 50w Plexi but the OT trannie might be a bit harder to find as it is the same as the DC30, so that will take a bit of tracking down. I don't know but try Hammond or Heyboer but I think with most of these companies they have plenty of Fender and Marshall replacements but other types are harder to find. Cheers Brian

Yeah you would't want to A/D (and D/A) convert your nice OTS tone would you? It's the reason I got a Rocktron. Dry signal stays analog
Thats a good feature to have, I picked the G Major for the relay switching but I wish it could do that, it would save a bit of modding or buying something like a Suhr Minimix.

Hi Everybody I got my Stray Cat kit two weeks ago from Nik and I just started to put it together last night.
So far I have put the trannies in and all the valve sockets but no wiring done as yet.
I will take photos along the way and post them and so if anyone spots any mistakes or a better way to do it, please feel free to say something as this is my biggest electronics project I have taken on.
I also bought a C-Lator kit from Nik for my Overtone HRM and that was a successful build, it took me about 8 hours all up. Plenty of checking and double checking before putting power through it.
Cheers Brian

Good video Marin, very informative in showing what difference the C-Lator does to the sound of the amp.
I just finished my C-Lator build last night. I have only given it a short try out at low volume so far but it feels like the amp has a slightly different character to it now over the Klein, so far it feels more warmer / smoother sounding.
I using a TC Electronic G Major in the loop with a Rocktron Midi Mate controller I bought S/Hand, really easy to set up the amp channel switching via midi patches.
I am temped to try the serial / parallel wiring that has been posted on Amp Garage site as the G Major has a Kill Dry function for parallel use.
