662  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Quinn 183 pre with Mill Creek/Ceriatone BM PWR amp on: March 23, 2011, 08:22:31 AM
Cool. I figured it had to be simpler than what i was thinking. I figured you were going from the preamp out from the quinn and then into the power amp in on the BM, just didn't know where the dlator went in Smiley. Sounds great, and thanks for the info!

good point, sduck. i forgot about that
664  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Quinn 183 pre with Mill Creek/Ceriatone BM PWR amp on: March 22, 2011, 11:24:41 PM
Took some clips 2day of my Quinn 183 pre with Mill Creek/Ceriatone Bluesmaster PWR amp.

Quinn 183 Preamp
Into a
100w Bluesmaster Pwr amp.
TC M300 in the Loop via D-lator with 270pF RG-400 cables (with Master Bright cap ON)
2x12 Ported D-style Cab with Celestion G1265's

Using a MIJ Fender strat with Burstbuckers.

This one has the FET ON (Warren Haynes/Hendrix inspired me)

Sounds Awesome!!!  Chair Dance

I have a very stupid question. How do you use the D-Lator if you are using the power amp input on the Bluesmaster amp? I am gathering it is somehow directly wired via the Coax; am i correct in assuming you wire the coax connection on the inside of the Bluesmaster and run the coax out? Told you it was a stupid question Wink

I think you'd have a lot of interest in this - personally I think you should go for the metal cage type cabinet too as it's pretty easy to fit etc and looks cool!!

Are you thinking something with a Brit or USA voicing?

A TT sized 6L6 amp would get my vote at the price you're talking about..!!

+1 to this, also if there was a way to have a way to switch the voicing that would be sweet!!!

i love this idea

I'd stay within spec. The plate voltage is already quite high with the stock PT and from what i gather the Bias voltage is pretty critical to stay in spec.

Gabby sells Mercury Magnetics PT's, OT's, and Chokes which are considered upgrades at fairly reasonable prices

668  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: BM 50: OD Trimmer/Drive control on: March 22, 2011, 10:25:54 PM
With different preamp tubes you'll get different results with the gain trimmer.

+1 to that and what sduck said. I keep my od trimmer between 11 And 1 o clock, and i don't push the drive control past about 6. I keep my clean channel gain between 5 and 7, clean master and OD master around 5, and use my clator as a final master, and can dial some additional gain if needed either with the drive and input controls on the clator, or via my clean boost pedal or my tube screamer dialed back.

Try different pre amp and power amp tubes as well. I currently have NOS Ge long plates in V1 and V2, for example, and they yield a nice, warm overdrive sound together with the TAD 6L6 short bottles i have currently. With a JJ in V2 it was more aggressive and gritty, but a lil harsh for my taste.

One of my fave setups (though not recommended) was 7025's in V1, V2, and V3, and JAN Phillips 6L6WGB's in V4 and V5, with my sag resistor engaged, to reduce plate voltage, and running between 46-48 ma! Again, not wise or recommended as those lil 6L6's are pushed to their limit, but the BM sounds like a cranked Deluxe Reverb or Super Reverb utilizing only the clean channel, the drive channel is useless at that point and it is semi dangerous, but fun!

By the way, I have 2 Weber 1265 Alnicos paired up with mine, and I love 'em!

Point is, the BM is a very versatile amp depending on what tubes and settings you use. Good luck and have fun!!

669  Website, Store / Suggestions / Re: Combining amps - more than one preamp in an amp? on: March 15, 2011, 01:33:32 AM
I agree. When i started playing guitar in the late 80's early 90's that was the in thing. Racks of preamps and effects and seperate amps, all solid state, of course. Looks like it is gaining popularity again, but tube based. By the way, since no one wanted those "old tube amps" back then you could get em for nothing. I had a blackface princeton reverb and a blackface super reverb that i paid about. $300 each for. If only it were that way now...
670  American Style / 5E8A Tweed Twin / question regarding the chassis size on: March 14, 2011, 07:54:33 AM
i am seriously considering having Nik build me one of these, but having it mounted in a 2x12 cab and shipped here is quite costly. Looking at it, it appears that it uses the same chassis as the OTS series. Can anyone advise if this is true?

672  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Who's running dual amp setup? on: March 14, 2011, 05:09:48 AM
ok, whew.  if i understand correctly it's a JSX Satriani model, and if it is the tube closest to the first EL34 it's the PI tube. was it physically broken like cracked, or just burned out?
673  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Who's running dual amp setup? on: March 14, 2011, 01:12:39 AM
thanks again to all replies
I have since tried to start my JSX and found  a cracked rectifier tube, i replaced it with a EH 12ax7 I had and then powered up and the amp went crazy loud with no input.
Figures atleast my OTS is runnin.
I was gonna get thae  JSX runnin and sell to pay for next build(2550)
Now I gotta disect Angry

you put a 12ax7 in a rectifier spot?
674  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Who's running dual amp setup? on: March 13, 2011, 11:27:32 PM
here's my current dual amp setup. i took the ampeg out of the mix because the speaker is starting to go. The only issue i have is that since i am using a y cable out of the boost which is the last pedal in my train, if one of the amps is on standby, i get a pop if i switch any of the pedals in and out due to ground issues i believe. i need an a/b/y box i suppose. oh and the 4x12's are currently in use, they are a glorified stand right now
675  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Simple HRM Bluesmaster mod for that icepicky overdrive on: March 12, 2011, 05:11:55 AM
hmm, well first of all its not a local feedback loop, i was quite tired when i posted that yesterday, its just a pair of

thanks for the feedback, even though, i now feel like i've messed with something i didn't need to.

Cheesy

Nah, as long as you get the amp sounding the way you like it, that's all that matters.

I forgot to ask, are you running OD and PAB at the same time? You may want to try it and then adjust the internal trimmers to your liking. Without running PAB and OD at the same time, you are going thru both tone stacks, which can make your tone sound wonky.
Glad you are getting it the way you like it!
