Just think of it this way... a wast majority of people are more than satisfied with this amp, so if you're after the D-tone, this amp will provide it for you no doubt. If you don't know exactly what you want in the first place, than it's possible this amp is not for you.
It is also possible that your amp need a touch here and there, so take erwins offer and go see him.

648  Custom amp building, Prototypes and other amps / Mods and Tweaks / Re: Westlabs built for Matchless to their specs VS Ceriatone Output Transformer on: February 09, 2009, 08:29:09 AM
The Westlabs OT is definitely more open with nicer high end detail and more bass as well.
Ceriatone OT sounds somehow congested I would say.

The test setup was the same for both OTs, right?... same amp, tubes, settings...
649  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: HRM Bluesmaster on: February 08, 2009, 08:23:57 PM
I found some info about the bluesmaster circuit on the TAG forum and I hope it's OK, if I post these lines here as well...  :Smiley

Bluesmaster refers to the clean stack and changes in the power amp. The Bluesmaster stack as a little more gain due to its circuit layout. The Bass control is centered around 130 hZ. This gives the bass a softer / spongier feel/attack (to my ears, your ears my be diferent). The middle control centers at around 800 hertz and give a more scooped mid range sound.

The power amp section is roughly the same as a Marshall Plexi (a few component changes). This has reduced negative feedback and gives more PA gain and a large bass response.

The Bluemaster also used a completed different boost arrangement that simply lifts the entire tone stack off of ground. This give a HUGE amount of boost, especially in the lower registers. This boost system also tends to roll the high end off just a little bit (6 to 8 dB) as compared to the bottom end.

652  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: PIN voltages on: January 21, 2009, 02:02:55 PM
It depends...

I've read on the TAG forum Glaswerks amps have around 185V on V1.
It makes your clean ch sound a tad brighter (in a good way).

If you like what you hear, don't touch it.
653  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Pics of completed Overtones on: January 18, 2009, 04:22:53 PM
Deep mod is done and it really adds dimension to the tone! Will post pics soon.

I'm thinking about installing the deep switch instead of FET input just like you.
I have a question for you. Did you install a resistor on the end of a dropping string to compensate for the missing FET board?
If not, what are your plate voltages, did they go up?
654  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Single G12-65 with the standard OTS amp on: January 12, 2009, 02:26:49 PM
Ok, thanks...........+1 on the floorish position. I always strive to do that whenever possible.
Like to have the punchiest sound possible. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, sometimes
on small stages, you gotta put 'em a chair and angle up, to be able to hear, etc........

Yes I know what you mean...in this case I just tilt the amp against the wall or something. You could also install Fender tilt back legs.

655  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Single G12-65 with the standard OTS amp on: January 12, 2009, 11:35:53 AM
Are you getting a pretty "full" sound out of it? I.E. enuff bass, etc.......
How does it cut and sound out live in this configuration?
Your combo cab is roughly the size of my 1 12 cab.

It works just fine.
It really helps to position the amp against the wall... and don't lift it up from the ground (like a chair or a stand), it helps with the bass response.

I'm using a single G12-65 and I'm more than happy with it.

658  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS clean channel not very loud on: January 07, 2009, 08:56:18 AM
My amp tech feels the same about Tungsols.
For some reason these tubes are not very reliable, actually all tubes coming from that particular plant.
He actually prefers JJ, much more reliable tubes.

660  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Want the smooth D sound, don't want bright or harsh on: January 01, 2009, 04:45:33 PM
Compared to Fenders or Vox type amps... OTS is not bright or even harsh sounding amp.
I'm using g12-65 and with that I would describe the tone as warm and smooth with enough hi end to be heard in band situation.
