I know what you mean. It looks like a happy hour for the amps is dying slowly. A month ago, I ordered a TW Expression and that was the last train for me, no more amps for me. In a way I'm glad, 'cause at least I won't be tempted that easily anymore. I doubt that you won't be tempted, perhaps just not enough to give in!

I'm getting desperate. I want to order another amp, its either a DC-30 or this SE and every week I wait the UK£ sinks further into the mire.
And then theres the talk of a 36watt/plexi hybrid! That sounds very very tempting.

Guys, I would like to ask you about my OTS Foot switch. The operation of my OTS foot switch is as follows : Red light is on - sound is clean. Red light is off - sound is overdrived. Green light is on - sound is boosted. Green light is off - sound is non boosted. Also opeartion of Manual/Pedal switch when I don't join by pedal is as follows : overdrive manual position - sound is clean. overdrive pedal position - sound is overdrived. preamp boost manual position - sound is boosted. preamp boost pedal position - sound is non boost. Are these operation normal? Please let me know. Jun I'm having the same problems in relation to rewiring a footswitch for 3 core cable operation as per Pickmasters schematic. Yours does seem to be operating incorrectly tho'. With footswitch connected O/D LED ON= o/d channel selected PAB LEd ON= PAB selected The operation of your switches with no pedal connected is correct.

Thanks for the info, DrIka, I bought both types just to be sure just aswell really as the 'low current' types still drew too much. In fact the 2.7k was borderline for the high power LED's, the PAB relay would trip but the OD wouldn't. I ended up using 12k and now both work fine and the LED are plenty bright enough, in fact the green I'm using is still too bright.
Only problem is the way the switches are wired up, I get the PAB led light up when the PAB is OFF. I seem to recall a discussion a while back that suggested that the switch was wired wrong in the original. I'd think it was just a matter of switching a couple of wires at the relay but I'm not confident enough to know which.

Dr Ika, I've just finished making the footswitch mods and it appears I have a problem with the LED's. I used the LED's of the original footswitch which were 12v LED's so I didn't put the resistor in series. Now it appears that they are drawing too much current since if I disconnect them the switching works fine.
So could you tell me the spec of those you used. I'd assume that a 5volt LED with a suitable resistor in series will draw a lot less current than the 12v.
Thanks for your help.
BTW I've just changed the mid cap to 50nF and the treble cap to 1nF with the intention of making it have a little more mid scoop when turning the mid pot down. Not had chance to try it yet, will report back later.

I was extremely skeptical about this- but I had to open up my OTS to tighten the rear speaker jacks so I thought, 'what the hell' & moved the filament cables as suggested, and I could detect an improvement in the overdrive tones- less fizz & more articulation- very subtle but ti is there. Anyone else try this?
Yes I did it, but I also did Dr Ika's V1 andV2 mods at thesame time so I was expecting to hear a difference and I did! OD much smoother, think the clean is bigger, will know more when I get a chance to wind it up at the rehearsal room next week.

hey all!
Don't hold back on ordering one of these...did for my son earlier this year and we can't say enough about how wonderful this amp sounds (had a cab built with the speakers that Nik suggests)...in fact, the speakers have just broken in and this amp sounds even better now (and everyone who hears it just raves about it).
Just about to, what speakers did you go with?

Did you make it yourself? If so what type is the Tolex and where did you get it from? I've a 1x12 combo to cover and I'm undecided what colour to cover it in, I think yours has just persuaded me, cream is very nice indeed.
I'm pretty much tied to black with gold grille cloth now for heads and cabs but a combo can be completely different (until I need an extension cab that is!!)

Hi Hywel, Here we go: I’m using ultra bright LEDs they use little current and with 2,7k resistors work well. All parts are in Maplin. Thats brilliant thanks! I would bet many kit builders would prefer this to the 5 core with DIN or XLR connectors, its so much easier to use a simple stereo jack/mic cable arrangement. I think I might have to mod the amp to a Neutrik locking jack socket (the hole is too big now for standard jack socket). I think this should also be posted in the Mods and Tweaks forum and indeed Nik should have it available on his Mods page.

absolutely! i have no dubt about it!! i already have a ts9, a marshall BB2 and i'm saving money for a fulldrive2 (i even love stef burns!).
IF you can try a Menatone Red Snapper, very transparent mild over drive, takes the clean into just breaking up territory.
