586  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OK guys, this is my layout... on: May 01, 2009, 08:13:40 PM
My apologies, I was speaking of the mid-boost mini switch, not the PAB footswitch. The second mid-boost cap I was speaking of, if you look at your layout, and follow the (B-3 on the standard OTS layout) wire from the pin on the switch (where the 4M7 resistor is attached to ground) and follow it to the board there is a .002uF cap

Aaa I see now,... I believe that's a coupling cap and that one is always on.
I never played with coupling cap but I think if it's bigger, the amp will have more bottom end... something like that, I'm not sure.

I notice that you have changed the value of the mid-boost cap from 330 pF to 390pF. Did this significantly change the amount of boost in the mid range ? I would think it would be less boost, which is what I'm striving for as I cannot use the switch as is.

Changing that cap will not affect the amount of boost... it will change the freq. and not level.
I tried 390p 'cause some originals used that cap. After this change, I think both caps work just fine...
Sorry, don't know how to decrease the boost level with that switch... maybe just one idea how to use it. Switch to the jazz mode, mid boost and bright on and what you get is very convincing tweed tone...  Wink

What does the second cap on that switch do, the .002uF? It almost looks as if the switch is bring that cap into and out of play when it is engaged.
Are you talking about the second cap on the bright switch?
588  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: moving OD trim pot to back panel. difficult? on: May 01, 2009, 05:45:04 PM
easily done... no noise issues (use shielded cable)

... definitely worthwhile mod

could you post a wiring diagram as to how you did this?  i would like to keep the bright switch and remove the FET and replace it with the mid boost switch.  regards laurie

590  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: What is the effect of changing the cap on the Presence pot on: April 29, 2009, 08:10:47 AM
Smaller the cap more spike you will notice...
Presence cap bleeds off the hi frequencies in the NFB to ground... smaller the cap less hi end goes to ground = more spike

something like that

Mine will be here in a week or so... but it will be in a kit form with no trannies.
It will take a while to built it but I promise... clips are coming.  Wink

I already own an OTS and if I borrow a HRM, I could perhaps record all three.
592  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Snubber caps mod on: April 27, 2009, 08:26:03 PM
The snubbers act as a low-pass filter. Higher values of snubber cap bring the knee down in frequency.
They should not affect mids much...

Maybe a better thing would be to use treble bleed circuit...
500k trimmer and .001uf cap to ground from OD2 plate
This way you could set the amount of treble you want... it's like having a little treble HRM in there.

I have just done this mod, using the FET input jack as a mounting location for the switch and the HRM layout, and I can only hear a very slight difference. Is it a really subtle difference in sound when the deep switch is engaged or should I be going back inside the amp to check connections?

Use your mp3 player, play some music (through the amp) and than try the deep switch. This would give you an idea what deep does.

Since I discovered Ceriatone I sold all my production amps and I own only Ceria amps now (four of them and I ordered another one  Embarrassed ). There is nothing out there, who can touch you price and quality wise. "Buy USA stuff" statement is so lame... somebody should tell those guys that globalization thing works both ways... never mind
At first I bought amps prebuild by Nik... but lately I want to build them myself... I guess that's your fault Nik.  Wink

Although I like you trannies, I still think package1 should stay. Shipping and customs cost can sometimes cost more than sourcing parts locally... but hey, if you don't want to do that anymore, who can stop you... at the end, it's your choice.
...and customers will react, the market will decide

...and that's how things should work, right?  ... may the best man win  Grin
595  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Bring back the Overtone on: April 15, 2009, 12:28:41 PM
I have a friend (currently on tour in Europe) that is a major player, opening (at various times) for Steve Vai, Clapton, The Allman Bros. Band, B.B. King among others that has been screwed after ordering the D***** ODS. He made the fateful mistake of calling to inquire about when he might receive it. He called 8 months AFTER ordering and paying for it. This is now 15 months later and he still doesn't have it. The D***** company is notorious for this behavior. If you call them to ask about what you paid $14,000 up front for, they put it totally on the back burner evidently, and make sure it's a cold day in hell before you get it.

My friend ended up purchasing 2 Overtone S&M's (just like I did a couple of weeks ago) and he is ecstatic with them. He uses a 4x12 cabinet and says the amps literally screams.

If he ever gets his amp... he can sell it and buy Ceriatone.

Just kidding of course

Yes I was waiting for clips as well... at the end I gave up and just ordered a BM HRM  Cheesy
I ordered a kit, I want to build it myself

Do you have a multimeter?

If you do... set it to the mV. You have bias test points besides the power tubes. Your bias should be around 35mV.

Hanging out with Larry... sounds like a wonderful day.
