586  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Buffered fx loop - Which one to get? on: June 09, 2011, 08:48:36 PM
I'll just say this, tone is very subjective. I like the way my c-lator makes my BM sounds, however I hate if as an FX loop as I don't like serial loops as the whole signal gets f/x'd, so I will be getting an add on parallel solution. Then again I also like the way my mega PAB sounds and I like to use the clean channel cranked for a nice chewy sound, so what I like may differ from someone else...

I was thinking the same thing. Oy veh coulda been a lil less helpful  Huh? the suhr mini mix and c-lator combo seems to work, also xotic makes a parallel/series buffer in a pedal format which could compliment the c-lator as well

I have the stock 68k resistor and a 22M resistor on a switch on my PAB circuit which does indeed offer more gain and more bottom end than the stock PAB. Actually it works more like a clean boost in that it doesn't just boost the mids like the normal PAB circuit. I don't know how it works on the technical level, but it does!

i agree!!!

I agree with tonemaster. Another good choice may be the stray cat. From what i've heard of the original bad cat and Nik's take, they are loud 30 watters! The JTM is one of my faves too. You can put a master volume on em as well, and they seem to take it well (no tone suckage), and of course if you turn it up all the way, it is out of the circuit.

Hope this helps!

I think everyone in the us is recovering from memorial day. Everything is a bit slowed down this week..

I went parallel as well. 2x16 ohm to run at 8 ohms. I use weber 1265 alnico and they sound phenomenal.

Thanks, Nik. Good to hear the words straight from the man.
595  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: any mods to tighten up OTS mushy bottom? on: June 01, 2011, 12:42:52 AM
I hated the mushy bottom. A set of EL34's will cure the problem of too much sag, without taking away all of they "cushyness" IMO 6L6's just sound too lose for some of these amps.

If i recall correctly, weren't you running KT-88's for a while? Did they help with the low end at higher volume levels?  Also, did you or have you heard of anyone trying KT-77's?
596  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: any mods to tighten up OTS mushy bottom? on: June 01, 2011, 12:35:30 AM
I have had a Mullard CV4024 (12AT7 equivalent) in the PI spot, and it does indeed help with the low end a bit. Surprisingly enough, so does a NOS GE Long Plate 12AX7. I have been running 12AT7 or lower gain 12AX7 tubes in the PI spot of most of my amps for years for just that reason for many years now.

Yup! We have that covered in the please please please make some blackface clones thread Smiley there is a local guy here who makes superb BF clones, but i would love to see Nik crank some out.

This is the word i just got from Nik. He responded in 10 minutes.

Nik,

Will your new policy affect full working chassis orders, i.e., Bluesmaster
HRM Package 3 like i bought? Also will you no longer to be able to do custom
mods on orders? Sorry to hear people are downing you. They are just hatin!

Keep up the good fight

Gregg V

Greg

Thanks man.

Pack 3 is not affected, as that's really a complete amp, not kits.

Ie, we'd offer those still - complete, less head cab (pack 4), less head cab
less tubes (pack 3) etc etc.

We're still doing this for the techs, resellers etc. We're just limiting
down on the support for kits, which can be time consuming.

As for gurus, they'd always be there Smiley

Thanks!

Nik
