I was disappointed with the tone of the amp when first built, though the volume was fine. It took quite a few hours for the character to 'emerge'. It was 'dead' to begin with, now it is bright and toneful.
For a little light crunch I'd recommend a Menatone Red Snapper and I also believe the Xotic RC Boost to be very good though I haven't had one to try, I intend getting one asap. Klon Centaur very highly rated but original examples are expensive.

Hmmm, very interesting. I wonder when they'll have any for release.
Someone has faith that the upturn in interest in valve technology isn't just a flash in the pan.

I only had a couple of hours spare on Sunday so not much accomplished.
Anyone confirm that the markings on the 220uF cap indicate the negative side? Seeing as there is nothing on the positive contact to indicate otherwise I feel I am fairly safe with my assumption.

There is a voltage chart that Nik made available. Go here to grab the download http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=871. Looks like yours are a little higher than normal, but I'm not qualified to make a judgement on whether thats a problem. Maybe with a 230v at the mains the transformer should be connected at the 240v tap not the 220v. In the UK we are nominally 240v but rarely see that, more normal is 228-235.

Only just figured out why I couldn't see this video, somehow youtube cookies were being rejected. Anyway, nice playing John. Have you tried either of these with a long ish cable, not necessarily long enough to get to a pedal board, but maybe just to sit on the floor by the amp? Any loss of signal quality?
Thanks

There is another common arrangement which might well be usefull in a situation like this when switching caps, its an ON-ON-ON DPDT. In the middle position the common is connected to BOTH.

Three way switches just give you one more option and those Pickmaster used are termed ON-OFF-ON DPDT (dual pole dual throw) switches. So in the middle position the common is connected to nothing.

Managed a couple of hours weekend before last and 3 hours yesterday. Completed PT wiring and valve heaters.
I had an accident with the rear faceplate and had to order another one off Nik, so I might get a bit of a delay finishing. I had to drill a hole on the rear for the power switch and I went through with an 8mm bit then went on to a ½" bit and that dug in to the perspex and cracked it. Not the end of the world but annoying none the less.

Hi Doc, I ordered my kit just before Christmas but haven't had much time to work on it. Hoping to get a few hours on Sunday.
I have also ordered a powerscaling kit from London Power and have arranged to get Shane Dolman, a londonpower accredited tech to install this. Will let you all know how it works out.
