Hi Mitch,

An usual “sausage frying and crackling” noise is a result of a bad preamp valves, especially first tube. Louder crackling and popping noise can be associated with bed soldering connections on the preamp tube sockets.
Overtoe is well build amp, especially older ones (serial production can affect quality unfortunately).
If you moded an amp check the connections again and  all capacitors you’ve changed.

2. absolutly correct ! just find an earth spot on the board.

Yes, you need a TWO core shielded (thin microphone) lead.
Shield (ground) must be soldered ON THE circuit board’s ground spot NOT to the chaise’s ground. 

As far as I know Nik needs about 1,5 – 2 months to complete an amp and ship it including pedal. He also tests the amp before that.
I prefer complete amp tested and guaranteed. One can tweak it latter.

Well, I have both.
Got Overtoe month ago – lovely amp from the box but I always modify amps, so spend about two weeks non stop tweaking and soldering.
Now I’ve got absolutely monster amp with:

1.switchable HRM filters on drive CH.
2.Special dual tone boost instead of weak PAB, it adds sweet brake up to clean    CH and more gain to Drive CH, also one can choose different tone on boost.
3.Triple switch instead of “bright” switch which enhances overdrive gain – you can have Plexi or Hi gain distortion.
4.Overall tonal sweetening – removing bass pot’s cap.

Super reverb is great clean amp. With pedals you can get nice overdrive sounds too but I prefer Overtone! Especially with my mods.

Soon I’ll publish sound samples and pics (just building a cabinet for the amp).

I’m new on this forum and would like to thank Nik and his company for the great amps we all enjoy.
Here is a lovely Tweed Deluxe which I’m using together with processors and I think it sounds fantastic (it sounds great without pedals too).
Sound sample was recorded with Patrick Eggle custom strat - Korg AX 1500G - to CERIATONE’s MIC 2 input (low gain). Clean & overdrive - neck single coil, Overdrive – bridge humbucker.
CCC 2X12 cabinet with Celestion G12 Century speakers and built inside mic capsule. Sorry for mindless wanking
