I think most new amps do. I think most of us are used to either buying used well broken in amps, new amps that have had alot of break in at the factory, or buying an amp at a music store (remember when we used to do that??) that have alot of burn in time in the store.

I think speakers are important on the BM too. I was running weber 1265 alnicos (alnico version of the G12-65) until tonight. The alnico weber version of the speaker is not dark as others, more on the warm side, and nicely bright, but the low end response of the BM was a little much for them, at least to my ears. I could never really find a tone stack setting I was really happy with, that's part of the reason I bypassed the HRM tonestack. I even stopped using the c-lator for a bit out of frustration. Tonight I stuck my 20 year old eminence G1s in there, tuned the HRM and PI trimmer back to factory specs put the c-lator back on and wow! That's all I can say. I ran it without the c-lator as well to compare and even with the better matching speakers it just wasn't as good without it. Seems to make it smoother and more punchy at the same time, depending how you set it. The Webers are great speakers, just not a great match for the BM

hmm good point, Todd. I may have to do that once he decided to do that, sounds like it's up in the air at the moment, if i read his post correctly.

Yes I do, with a HEPA filter and all. I was kinda bummed about the kits too, as i wanted to build a Prinzetone for my first build, but i may build a Supro from another company and buy the Prinzetone built by Nik instead. C'est la vie i guess Gregg

Well, it had to happen. After having built both a OTS HRM and a 2550, I thought this would be easy. Not so. When starting the thing up, the 6V6 tubes are glowing with a pulsing blue light, and noice (scratching) is heard loudly through the speaker. I have checked the layout and all solders, and cannot find anything wrong! Anyone have any idea where to start looking? I´m handy, but no engineer, so I´m a little lost right now... Sounds like a problem with the tremolo circuit. if the blue light is pulsing, that means the tremolo is on, if it is a bias type, which i believe Nik's is. If it is flucuating enough it could make the noise you describe as well. Gregg

i would rather play em than build em. I'm not sure why building and playing can't be equally as enjoyable. Being able to build an amp has no bearing on how well or how much enjoyment I get out of playing guitar. In fact I think I might just get a bit more enjoyment out of playing guitar with an amp I built. I agree and certainly knowing how the amp is built, thanks mostly in part to the ones who have the time, patience, and skill to build it, have helped me alot in my modding and enjoyment, but I just don't have the time to do it. If I did, I would be alot more upset about the kits being discontinued (I was going to get a prinzetone kit and build it), but for now I'm just glad Nik is still in business. Who knows, he may bring the kits back one day

I was thinking about this a bit today and realized this is really my position on the "no kits" question. Basically, my attitude is always from a consumer point of view. IMO, the more choices the better. So when a previous choice is taken away, I think generally, it's a bad thing.
ahh but he's promised a wider selection of amps, so it's a trade-off, I'll have to wait and see what new models arrive exactly, and he may have time for custom one offs and custom mods to standard amps as well. I would rather have an amp builder with a well stocked variety of quality handbuilt, handwired amps, myself. Building them is neat, but like Tone Control said, i would rather play em than build em. i can always mod em or have em modded later, ir have Nik mod it when it's built.
