46  Ceriatone / Overtone / Fx in the clator or back out front? on: August 02, 2012, 09:35:14 AM
Hi guys, im lovin my Fm me. I have been trying my board out front of the amp and not in the loop of the clator. Has anyone else experimented with this? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A friend (and great player - he just got a jeff traugott acoustic, I wanted to cry (seriously!) when I heard it) said that RF is running his fx out front again and showed me some pics, and yes I think it does sound better. I will never let the clator go (its now integral to my sound and rig) but am really happy running all the fx out front!!

Thoughts appreciated.

48  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: so ive had the OTS FM ME a while now..... on: June 15, 2012, 01:59:11 PM
That's just plain awesome!  I know what you mean to dial an amp in from what is stuffed into the cab back to the input jack.  have done that with 50w HRM and 50w OTS.  Gonna get to do it all over again when the SSS arrives with no tubes in it by my request...

There is a lot of herd following on the EV thang as well as the Celestion g12-65.  Great speakers for sure, but I have other preferences.  Keep working on your VOS tube collection.  Niiiiice!

Thanks mate, as i said, ive never been this happy with setup and sound. Re the speakers, didnt dumble use an eminence of some description? Anyway the wgs and eminence that come standard in the two rock box are just the right mix of warmth and articulation.

Btw im now gassin for a SSS, those cleans are somethin else, almost 3 dimensional!
49  Ceriatone / Overtone / so ive had the OTS FM ME a while now..... on: June 13, 2012, 10:36:16 AM
As some of you know I sold my bluesmaster for a FM ME.

so i got it and...........................

and i fixed the clator and........................

and I used NOS tubes and................................

and I got a Two Rock 2x12 cab and...........................

Well one by one,

this amp definately is giviing me the "sounds in my head" thing. I love Carlton, Ford, Santana and it can give me all of these. Traditional dumble sounds, unlike the bluesmaster which seems to be firmly rooted in Fender Blackface/ Marshall territory. The cleans are wondeful and warm and can be pushed to Carlton like sizzle. The overdrive is much smoother and complex.

the c-lator is fixed (it was a tube issue) and adds so much more complexity and tone to the sounds and makes the amp so much more controllable.

im using NOS tubes and I am a believer. I got a pair of Sylvania Mesa STRs and the preamp has a Jan GE12ax7wa in 1, a RCA 12ax7a in 2 and a stock electroharmonix in 3. These tubes were ABed with a set of JJs all round. What a difference! The NOS tubes sounded rich and harmonic, warm and full of tone. The JJs sounded dark and lifeless and dare I say clinical.

the two rock cab is amazing! It sounds huge, Dumble really knew what he was doing here with the design. It is full of life and really moves some air (it sounds as big as a quad). There spread of sound is really incredible and the speakers love the amp, great tone, really musical as opposed to the way Evs can sound clinical IMHO.

The friend who I tested all this with is a confirmed boogie nut (he owns 2 2C+s and a Mk IV). We ABed the OTS with one of his Mesa 2C+s and while there were some differences, I was amazed at the similarities. He was blown away by my OTS (he also owns a Ceriatone JTM50 so he knows Niks work and quality). The OTS could go places sonically that his 2C+ couldnt (and vice versa). He ended saying that it sounded awesome. He was really impressed.

All in all, ive never been this happy with a set up. It really is an awesome thing when an amp gives you what you hear in your head. Now the weak link in this musical chain is....................me! Lol.

50  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: More C-Lator thoughts on: June 07, 2012, 10:00:48 AM
Thanks mate but ive tried that too. Could it be the tube do you think?

Btw it was doing the same to my bluesmaster.
51  Ceriatone / Overtone / More C-Lator thoughts on: June 07, 2012, 09:12:18 AM
Hey guys, ive just got my OTS FM ME (it replaced a b luesmaster) anyway my c-lator seems to be adding more drive , a little too much regardless of the settings. Ive tried the suggested ones ie drive at 12 input at max and output as global master and when I hit my strings hard on the clean channel im getting some break up.

I tried alytering settings ie drive at 9 and input at 12 etc but still cant get it to clean up.

With the c-lator out of the loop and the amp on its own it will give me bell like cleans.

ideas?

Mmmmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnn.................... My local two rock dealer is trying to get me to buy a two rock 2X12 with the odd pair of wgs speakers.........................expensive.............................but it does sound good....................................must resist................ Lol!!!!

BTW i am still hanging out for the OTS FM ME that Nik is building for me.............................this is killing me...................but i did borrow a ceriatone jtm45 for last weekends gigs!!!!!!!!!!!!
53  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: So I sold my bluesmaster and ordered a OTS FM Mod Eagle! on: May 09, 2012, 01:39:52 PM
...oh, & you are right: just before discovering my "solution", I had decided with Nik to mod my amp, most probably to FM50ME specs. It's just that the shipping fees would have rocketed to $700 alone, not to mention the mod & parts itself.

So this "calmed" em a good deal....lol

BUT - guess what? Do you know what Nik's next amps he's putting out? That info (that Nik ok-ed that I discuss on this forum) WILL PLEASE A LOT OF PEOPLE!!

And............................................... Come on................................ Dont leave it hanging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
54  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: So I sold my bluesmaster and ordered a OTS FM Mod Eagle! on: May 09, 2012, 09:20:25 AM
The info of boldaslove is awesome. The V-boutique cabs look great at an unreal price.

The bluesmaster 100 I have is as you decsribe, mainly more cleanish/bf tones than the regular OTS tones you hear - especially the jazzy ones, Robben Ford, etc..

In final analysis (& despair), & in order to get the tones you are seeking, I relied on an un-orthodox (& now controversial) routing, & that is a boss eq pedal direct in the loop, (or through a buffer if used along with a delay/reverb).
I read your despair and solution in the other thread and decided to start again with the "right" OTS rather than try to "fix" a tonestack that was essentially quite different. Are you happy with your result?
55  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: So I sold my bluesmaster and ordered a OTS FM Mod Eagle! on: May 09, 2012, 07:56:29 AM
Can we inquire why you sold the bluesmaster?
Its funny cause when I first got the BM I didnt know it was a BM (I got it used). My uneducated (to the diff dumbles) ears could hear Mayer and ,with some tweaking, Carlos etc. BUT............... After spending more time with it (at gigs and at home) I came to realise that this amp is definitely rooted in Blackface territory and wouldnt give me the creamy od tones or the warm cleans I hear in my head (and on CD).

Im much more into Carlton, Ford, Santana and less into Mayer etc. So heres hoping that the non HRM, OTS FM ME will give what im craving, paired with my C Lator I should be closer and can only blame my fingers then.Lol.

Opinions?

Oh and cheers to Boldaslove for his info on cabs and speakers
56  Ceriatone / Overtone / So I sold my bluesmaster and ordered a OTS FM Mod Eagle! on: May 07, 2012, 01:01:50 AM
Its going to go into my modded head cab with my c lator. Ive got some NOS Sylvania 6L6GC STR415s for the power section and NOS jan phillips 12ax7 and NOS RCA and a sovtech for the preamp. Im kinda interested in getting a new cab for it, something diff to the celestion G12-75s ive got now. Ive heard that the two rock 2x12 cab is cool with the eminence speakers. Lookin for some advice please. Thanks guys.

58  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Is it worth converting my bluesmaster to a standard HRM? on: April 29, 2012, 11:42:30 AM
Thanks for the response. I think I may try to hunt down a standard OTS to either but or trade. Anyone?
59  Community / Classifieds / Trade Bluesmaster for Standard OTS? on: April 29, 2012, 05:06:34 AM
This may be a long shot but i'm interested in trading my HRM Bluesmaster for a Standard OTS.

Im in Australia in NSW.

Anyone? Anyone?

60  Ceriatone / Overtone / Is it worth converting my bluesmaster to a standard HRM? on: April 29, 2012, 02:57:04 AM
Im not currently loving the OD on the bluesmster, too mashally, not creamy dumbley enough. Is it worth converting it to a stanfard HRM? OR should I just go get a non HRM OTS. I really like (surprise) Ford, Carlton and Marins tones from their amps. BTW im running a c lator and all my tubes are JJ's (ive got some NOS preamp tubes coming from kcanostubes). And speakers are celestion G12 - 65s. Guitars are mainly PRS.

thanks all.
