Whenever I hear Bonomassa, I hear WAY more Marshall, especially the Jubilee, and fuzz than Dumble in his sound. The Dumble adds another layer, but it is subtle.
Indeed, Erwin is correct. It took me a hour to wire up my 3 way HRM bypass, and it's basically 2 wires and drilling a hole. It usually takes me an hour to carefully adjust the PI trimmer if I change PI tubes doing experiments. Patience, and taking your time are your friends on these amps. They look simple on paper and in photographs, but when you dig into em, they clearly aren't. The lead dress on the preamp sockets alone can take hours to get right.
Every tech has their own skill level, assembly speed, and level of sticktoitivness. I don't think it's something that can be quantified without getting into string theory and particle physics...
I have the weber alnico 1265's in my BM 50 2x12 and I love em. I got the pre rola treatment and had them broken in. Very versatile, and not at all dark. Very warm, nice deep bass, yet bright. Very nice speaker indeed.
I have my eye on a 100w HRM for sale. From reading and clips I really like the Bluesmaster, especially the clean tones. So how difficult would it be to convert an HRM to BM specs? As I understand it, they're basically the same circuit. Would it be a matter of changing small component values, or are there different trannies and major wiring changes?
Experts please explain. (I don't think it's fair to bother Nik for info on a used amp. The man's busy enough!)
The differences are in the main and HRM tonestacks, mainly. Like sduck said, it's just a matters of swapping the caps and resistors out. Also the BM doesn't have the pull bright on the OD master volume, just a set bright cap
Sounds pretty good. The Hodad is a lil darker than the Dano DC59, though. I think it's because of the block of wood running down the center for the bridge and bigsby. Sounds very, very nice, though.
Thank you very much, Dr Ika! Those Tex-Mex pickups are quite lovely. I very much prefer them to the Texas Specials. I need to record something when i am coherent, though
I have never used one, but have heard nothing but good things. I wouldn't think you would need the bright switches on the FM, as it is somewhat bright already. It's nice that the serial/parallel option built in as well.
Here's some slightly better noodlin around in E with boosted cleans Fender Tex Mex Strat with D'Addario HRM Bluesmaster BYOC Triboost in Linear boost mode TC Hall of Fame Reverb
