Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Renewed Love for the Jazz Setting on the HRM Bluesmaster

I'm renewing this thread since I decided to give the setting another shot the other day. Gotta say--maybe it was my preconceived notion re the Rock setting (that since I play more Rock-based stuff, it MUST be the setting to use), but I really feel that the Jazz setting allows the guitar's sound to come through best. I'm primarily using a Les Paul with Burstbuckers (Alnico 5s), but when I switch in my strat, it's very easy to hear the differences in character. Also, I was having the hardest time trying to dial in the OD to my liking in the Rock setting. Fizzed out a lot or just wasn't overwhelmed. In the Jazz setting, though...wow. Much creamier. I'm using all 4 "modes" - clean, OD, PAB, PAB+OD, though I usually just play with the PAB. I am liking this setting a lot. Don't discount it!

Bluesmaster 100w 2x12 Ported Thiele Cab with EVM-12L and EVM-12S
V1 - Tested and retested Tung-Sol (these are notorious for failing, but sound great in my opinion) V2 - RCA Blackplate V3 - TAD 12ax7
Powertubes are TAD 6L6 WGC STR's.
Sounds great to me.

Regarding power conditioners, Guys, try the Furman m8x-2. It's a $50 power conditioner in a rack space. Right now, it just sits on the amp. Really does a lot to even out the waves.

Hey all,
So do I understand correctly that this amp will not have an overdrive channel? It will be a clean platform only?
Thanks,
Stephen

Kicked all my drives off my board (KOT, TIM, modded DS-1, RC booster). Kept the following chain:
Turbo Tuner (best tuner) --> Clean Boost for buffering --> Teese RMC-3 wah --> Java Boost (Germanium treble booster. Get one. With the Bluesmaster 100w, it's golden) --> Captain Coconut 2 --> Digitech Hardwire DL-8 --> amp. The vibe unit on the Captain Coconut and the delay are run through the C-lator. With the fuzz on the CC and the Java boost, I can cover almost any sound I need. The great thing about the latter is that it has a toggle switch to set the pedal for full boost, treble boost, or mid boost. Pretty rad.

Hey Burst, maybe you could contact Dave at Avatar Speakers and ask him for one of his jack harnesses. It has 3 outputs, both speakers in parallel for 16 ohm, both speakers in series for 4 ohms, or either speaker at 8 ohms (assuming the EV's are of the 8 ohm variety, which is standard). With this, you can simply switch the speaker cable between the jacks, being careful to make sure the amp is set to the correct impedance, or even run two amps through the cab, one through each speaker. They work well, had one on my previous Avatar cab. http://www.avatarspeakers.com/

mckintu has a solid point, but I also agree with the first 2 responses. Get a GEQ and call it a day. Clean boost and tone shaping? Deal.
That said, a GEQ can be a bit of a pain to dial in, especially for getting it set right for clean and OD. If you already have your amp EQ set the way you like it, then introducing another set of variables could just be a headache in the making. If this is the case, then I'd go with the Keeley, which is about as transparent as you are likely to find outside of Klon Centaur territory. Another great option is the EP Booster, which is the boost section of the Echoplex in a compact pedal form.
In my situation, I'm not running any OD's on my board at the moment, though I do still have a Java Boost (rangemaster clone), an Ego Boost (discontinued clean boost), and a fuzz. I just rely on my amp and its OD and boost features. I use the boost more as a buffer to help push the signal through the cable runs. It made more sense to go simple.

I pulled (almost) all the Overdrive and Distortion Pedals from my board. I was running several, including a King of Tone and a TIM, but I really wanted to just experiment with the amp's OD and PAB more. Let me just say this:
Java Boost (or other Rangemaster clone) + Germanium Fuzz + Amp OD/PAB = End of Story
