Very nice!! It's always cool to see pro/gigging musicians' gear. So tell me, do you like Les Pauls? I can't tell from those pics lol. Cool gear, man! Gregg

Thanks for the compliments, squatch.
I dont't know why, but I love the bigger necks. It makes no sense because I have short fingers, but I think it's because they are short, but wide and my hands are wide, who know? It may be because the main guitar for years was a pancake les Paul custom from the late 70's and it had a pretty wide fat neck on it. The SE has quickly become my favorite, and I can't wait til the Bare Knuckle Emeralds arrive. I'm gonna wire em so I can split then individually, and the splits will be opposite (neck pickup split will be north coil, bridge pickup split will be south pole) so they will be humbucking when used together, and should give a good 2 & 4 strat position vibe. I'm also adding the guitarnuts 3 way tone cap switch (.022 up, .015 middle, .047 down) so it should be very versatile indeed.

DR and SR would be an awesome start indeed. You already have your Prinzetone, I can imagine if would be even more excellent with reverb! I agree with the straight face vs slant face. I love the looks of the slant face, but it limits the cab choices.

I agree with Nik. I have an Ampeg Jet that runs 2 EL 84's in Class A, and if I don't keep it well vented even it will get pretty warm.

+1 to what mcinku said gotta try a few till ya find what ya like.
sometimes i like my tubescreamer set as a clean boost, sometimes i use the Mega PAB on my amp as it is a little more clean as the stock PAB, sometimes i use my boosta grande, sometimes a use my fulldrive set as a clean boost. all depends on my mood and the setting

the differences are quite neglgible. some folks say that running at 16 ohms is best, some say 8, some say 4. I have run at all three, and haven't notices any huge differences.

Thanks, Greg. That actually make alot of sense, due to the fact that by clipping the ground an infinite resistance to ground is theoreticallt introduced. Funny thing is i was thinking of adding a variable PAB system via trimpot or even a full sized one, so the idea shoulda hit me Thanks again! Gregg

Ceriatone / Overtone / Bypassed HRM volume jump UPDATED!!!!
|
on: September 25, 2011, 10:46:38 PM

So, like a few others here, I have been rockin with my HRM tonestack bypassed for a while now and I do love it ever so much, but there is one downside, the volume jump that occurs from taking the HRM tonestack out of the circuit. It makes it pretty hard to balance between the clean and OD channels, even with a c-lator. For example I normally run my clean master at 12 o clock and with the HRM engaged the OD master also at 12 o clock. With the HRM bypassed, there is so much signal available that I have to run the OD master around 7 or 8 o clock. This doesn't drive the power section as hard and also puts it on the bright cap as well. Any thoughts on how to even out the volume levels? Pot value change like maybe a 500k pot instead of 1ma? Maybe the 100k resistor that feeds the pot can be reduced to 68k or 47k?
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Gregg

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Head Cab vs. Combo Cab
|

I have a 2x12 combo from gabkits for my BM. It is a cab for a matchless modified to fit the OTS series. It took a little longer than originally stated to build due to Anthony and crew at RME all having flu and pneumonia (I ordered during winter) but they were very communicative during the process and offered me a large discount, such as not charging for the custom mods, etc due to the wait time and the special they had at the time. One thing to consider is that gabkits outsources to RME. As far as sound, it sounds like any unmodified open back 2x12 combo that you have heard. It's a pretty simple design that hasn't changed in alot of years it sounds pretty good. I may make a panel so I can close it up and have it be a closed back as well, but other than that it's good enough for rock n roll Based on customer service I *might*order from them again, but tenguitars and sourmash have been having been getting great reviews as well. John at thecabguy.com is very knowledgeable and helpful in design as well. Hope this helps! Gregg

Now that i have lived with this amp a bit and gigged it................. I am still in awe of the responsiveness and tone esp in a live setting. Im now thinkin of getting another, maybe an OTS or an Fm. Just for some thing else.
Thoughts appreciated.
I saw a screaming deal on fleabay for an OTS by Marsh amps, the fsx-50 Overlord. Uses C-tone boards, Mercury PT and Heyboer OT. Got mine with half power switch, OD trim on back panel, and lift negative feedback switch. 'Bout tore my face off the first time I played through it in a good way a la Marshall-y tone with the negative feedback lifted, more of an effect than with the same feature on the HRM. Like the HRM, a huge tone palette but can still do the classic smooth oozy D-style sustain. Running GE blackplate, or Sylvania grayplate 6bg6ga's with adaptors in my OTS, wonderful sounding and once I got the adaptors, 6bg6ga's are affordable, as in cheaper than modern 6l6's with better tone IMHO. where's ya find the adapters at? i've been curious since ya started talking about em
